I knew Pete since 1969 when he was a freshman and I a sophomore at Cathedral Preparatory Seminary in Brooklyn. He was one of the greatest guys I’ve ever had the privilege of calling a friend. Kind, generous, magnanimous and a man of strong integrity. In recent years it was always a great joy to see him, especially at one of his magnificent barbecues in Baldwin Harbor and then Island Park. My condolences to Cathy and to the entire family. Here’s of photo of us as members of the 1971-1972 Cathedral Varsity basketball team.

dear Cathy and dear Cavanaugh family during the nearly 20 years i have known Peter, he was always full of life, full of fun, told great stories and was an all around good guy to be with even as his illness progressed , he was full of spirit, resolve and fight . his big personality will be missed by all sympathy and condolences from my wife , Cathy's sister--Trisha O'Brien and me, her husband---Jeffrey Cole
