Anthony Sogluizzo

Obituary of Anthony J. Sogluizzo

Anthony (aka Tony or Buddy) Sogluizzo loved being a Brooklynite, remaining a  loyal Brooklyn Dodgers fan his whole life.  The soundtrack of that life was the crack of a baseball bat, the roar of the fans at any stadium and doo-wop tunes, especially Dion and the Belmonts.  Buddy was proud of his Jesuit education from Brooklyn Prep High School and St. Peter’s College.  He received his Masters Degree in Library Science from St. John’s University.  He served his country in the U.S. Army and continued his service to others as a librarian at Jersey City Public Library, Brooklyn Public Library & The Brooklyn campus of Long Island University & Saint Francis College.  Buddy was born in New York City, son of Mary Richter and Anthony Sogluizzo.   Tony was the dear husband of Margaret (Peggy) Kearney , beloved father to Cary Anne Fitzgerald (Patrick) and adored grandfather of Jill.  He was the brother of the late Robert (Bobby) Sogluizzo (Arlene), uncle of Brian and Jeremy and Great-uncle to Anthony, Michael, Noah and Peyton. He was a cherished friend, colleague and neighbor. He relished being a nephew and cousin. He loved animals with a great compassion.  Tony was a profound and humorous storyteller and known well for his sweet tooth, love of great food - his pizza connoisseurship was legendary - books and movies.  His kindness will be remembered most by anyone who was blessed to know him.
