Eric sweet boy, you were my cousin you were my friend. We went through the hardest day of your life when I had to tell you your mom had gained her angel wings. You were just a boy. That day my heart broke for you. Now its broke again for you. I wish we could have kept better communication through the years but reconnecting a little while back and seeing your pics of your beautiful wife and daughter let me know you had your family now and you were good. We had some fun times growing up and I will forever cherish those days. Kiss your mom for me and say hello to Jon. The 3 of you are together again. My heart breaks for your wife and baby girl and all of your family and friends. You touched so many and all say you where the goods. I am so proud of the man you became in spite of the odds. You did it. I hate that I am typing this. Ugh. Rest easy Eric (Q) I love you.</3 Chrissy

I was Eric's teacher at P.S238. Even at the young age of 11, he had a way of making me laugh. We would even discuss the Yankees and their struggles in the early 1990s. Even though it is 30 years since I last saw Eric, the memories are strong. May his memory be for a blessing!

Damn Buffy you will be missed. I remember your mom and mine would hang out often. Please give your mom and your brother Jonathan a hug for me. Knew you when you and your wife first got together. I will always love you and Christine. Rest in peace my childhood friend.

I have countless memories of me, Eric and Christine during our college years that were some of the best times of my life. From his dance moves - notably, the washing machine - to how welcoming and loving he always was, memories of Eric will always make me smile. I’m lucky to have known him.

Eric Perez was truly one of a kind, no exaggeration. He was so many positive things, and although no one could ever quantify all that he was simply with words on a page, it is necessary to make an attempt. I have known Eric for what feels like my entire life. He has been a part of my family for so long that although he may be an in-law, or better yet - an outlaw, to me he was always my cousin. I loved Eric and I always will for so many reasons, too many to name. However the reasons that stand out to me the most right now are all the things he taught me and everyone around him, whether we all knew it or not. He taught us to be confident by always being DJ DopeSky at our family gatherings, despite risk of hearing the opinions of the crowd. He taught us to be silly every time he snuck up to a window and barked like dog in the hopes of startling someone. He taught us to cherish our time together, because FamFirst is more than just a hashtag. He taught us that when you find the one you’re meant to be with, regardless of how old you are, they are your family and you never let them go. He taught us to take every opportunity to tell someone how beautiful they truly are or just how much you love them. He taught us to be patriotic by always having the national anthem queued up and by giving his dogs presidential names. He taught us how to be a fun dad and raise a beautiful, kind, and respectful daughter while being her best friend and father all at once. He taught us not to take ourselves, or our height, too seriously, and when available, a pumpkin makes a great step stool for a picture. He taught us to always show up, even if you worked earlier that day and even if you need to take a nap at the party, everything is fine as long as you show up. He taught us that life’s too short to not have a cool car, and that a loud car is way cooler than a quiet one. He reminded us to pause, look up, and appreciate the beautiful sunsets that we are blessed with from time to time, and to never take those Dope Skies for granted. Eric Perez will never be forgotten by those whose lives he has touched. We will think of him every time we hear the Star Spangled Banner. We will think of him every time we see a crisp white vintage Mustang, and how much he loved that car. And we will think of him every time we see a Dope Sky, and we will carry that torch and take pictures of those Dope Skies, #NoFilter of course.
Someday, when the pain from his loss is less, the void of his larger than life presence will still be felt. I believe that part of me will never fully accept this, and I will always hold onto hope that he’s gonna show up to the party, he’s just stuck in traffic. I am personally grateful that Eric was always himself for one very important reason: he never missed an opportunity to tell people how much he loved them, and as a result people always returned the sentiment to him and told him how much they loved him. While we may not believe it is fair that he was taken from us so abruptly and early, we can be thankful for all that he has given to all of us. “It’s not what you take when you leave this world behind you, it’s what you leave behind you when you go.” I love you Eric, you are forever in my heart.

Oh man this is a though one. As Eric would say “what up my ninja”. He actually got me saying that too. History with people is huge. Unfortunately our history only goes back less then 3 years. In this case it doesn't make it any easier. We were not only coworkers we were friends, inside & outside of work & @ work i would see him every morning. Because we were back to back in our locker isle. Going to be tough turning around & not seeing him walking to the bathroom with his baby wipes. Speaking of he was 1 of the cleanest/freshest guy in the garage and of course for me the funniest. The power he had to make people smile & laugh was a gift. He would make guys that weren't a fan hide there chuckle when he was cracking a line or a joke. He will b dearly missed but we will keep his memory alive.
My deepest condolences goes out to his Wife and Daughter he loved u both the most “Family First” and to the rest of his family as well.
Heres a photo i took of him at his house and of course he was trying to make us laugh.
See U Later My Ninja

Many condolences to Eric's family especially his wife and daughter. I live on the same block as him and have two young children; the only reason I met Eric is because you never saw his daughter without him by her side. School pickups, joy rides in the loud white mustang, dog walking and of course playing basketball in the middle of the street with the kids.
I didn't know him long but the times I did get to speak with him were so nice. I remember the last thing he said to me like it was yesterday - he saw my daughter quite a ways ahead of me on her bike and he didn't see me - when he finally saw me he laughed and said "You scared me; I know she's too young to be out here all on her own" ...
Eric, I'm not sure what i'll miss more; your face on the block or the roar of your engine when you left the house. Please don't stop watching over your little girl; she'll need you now more than ever. Rest in sweet sweet peace.

I met Eric when I was a teacher with a worksite, a Kingsborough community college. My students had a variety of learning disabilities and sometimes behavioral issues. Eric would take them under his wing and teach them how a man, not a boy, would handle things. He was kind and patient. He had such a love of life, it’s so sad he’s gone way too soon. My condolences to Christine and Madelyn and all his family.
