When a loved one leaves us, when he is no longer with us and we can neither touch nor feel it then it seems to have disappeared forever, but sincere affection will never die. The memory of the people who have been dear to us will always live stronger in our hearts than any more important embrace than any word. Dear Aunt Nina, that's right, you've been and you'll always be a special person! My mom, as well as your sister Nicolina, always told me about you. You were in his thoughts every day. I still remember when you felt like correspondence, and I watched my mother write you long letters and when your letter arrived, she read it a thousand times with eyes full of tears for happiness. Dear Aunt, I am very sorry that I haven't been able to meet you all these years, but life events have not allowed it. Dear Aunt I want to remember you with a smile and with that sweetness that lit up your face, surely even where you are now you have a smile for everyone and everyone has it for you! I love you!

Growing up at 1447 East 28th Street with the Baldo family, Nina was a 2nd mom to me. I spent countless nights dowstairs eating at her table. She was a phenomenal cook who loved feeding her family, including me. I particularly enjoyed her white pizza with anchovies and her spaghetti with rabbit meat. I remember her in her sewing room making her own dresses and sewing patches on Brian and Anthony's jeans. I remember how much she loved gardening, incorporating fresh produce from the backyard garden into her dishes. Shortly after we moved upstate, the Baldos followed, purchasing a lakeside cottage a few towns over where we gathered on the screened-in porch overlooking Brown's Pond. She was especially proud of her fenced in garden. She was an exceptionally smart lady. Although English was not her native language she had a razor sharp wit and penchant for learning. As an adult she obtained her GED and went on to work with special needs children at Murrow High School. Most importantly perhaps, she was my mom's best friend for more than 60 years. They supported and cherished each other through good times and sad times. Her loss is immeasurable. Rest in peace Nina ❤
