Obituary of John D. Keyes
John D. Keyes, age 86, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, July 24, 2019. Mr. Keyes was born March 11, 1933 in Brooklyn, New York. He is the son of the late George and the late Johanna (Blum) Keyes. A man who devoted his entire life to the service of others. Valiantly served our country with the US Army. John was a passionate member of the community involved in many organizations. John committed 21 brave years as a NYC Firefighter with Engine 279/Ladder 131– Red Hook, Brooklyn. He served as President of the Holy Name Society-FDNY. Dedicated decades to the Catholic War Veterans, appointed as Commanding officer of his local Brooklyn post and Kings/Queens County. Faithful member of the Veteran of Foreign Wars and American Legion. Devout METS fan but Brooklyn Dodgers were number one.
John is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Rosemary Keyes. Loving father of Geralyn M. Brisley. Cherished grandfather of John, Timothy and Aidan. Dear brother of Henry Keyes. Adored uncle of many nieces and nephews.
Reposing Sunday, July 28 from 2 to 5 PM and 7 to 9:00 PM at Marine Park Funeral Home, 3024 Quentin Road, Brooklyn, New York.
Mass of Christian burial will be held 9:30 AM on Monday, July 29 at Mary Queen of Heaven R.C. Church, 1395 East 56th Street, Brooklyn, New York with Rev. Thomas F. Leach, Pastor officiating.
Committal service to follow at Calverton National Cemetery, Calverton, New York.
