Obituary of Carmela L. Afflitto

Carmela L. Afflitto, age 101, of Brooklyn, NY, passed away Saturday, October 5, 2024. Millie was born January 14, 1923, in Brooklyn, NY. She is the daughter of the late Pasquale and the late Adeline (Cherico) Marotta. Millie married her beloved, John E. Afflitto, who predeceased her in 1996.

Millie served as a member of St. Edmund Prep’s cafeteria staff for over 30 years until her retirement in 1999. She frequently referred to the students of St. Edmund as "her girls," often paying for lunches of those without lunch through the years.

Millie touched the lives of many with her selfless acts of kindness, her gentle spirit and her ability to see the best in everyone she met. She taught us the importance of empathy, humility, and love that endures beyond time.

She is survived by her devoted sons John E. Afflitto, Jr. and Patrick (Maryann) Afflitto.

Grandmother of Patrick (Lauren,) Milan and Aviana.

Visitation will be Wednesday, October 9, 2024 from 8:30 – 10:00 AM at Marine Park Funeral Home, 3024 Quentin Road, Brooklyn, NY 11234.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 AM at St. Edmund R.C. Church, 2460 Ocean Avenue, Brooklyn, NY.

Burial to immediately follow in Calverton National Cemetery, Calverton, NY.
