Tonight I found out about Mike's passing through a Facebook post. I am shocked and saddened. Mike was a great friend to both me and my late husband Captain Mike Brumm. From the seventies at Stella Maris to the move to Montauk in the eighties and then the expansion to Islamorada un the nineties Mike was there with us. He was our mate on the Daybreaker, he brought in the fish and then made us laugh all day. I wish I had known sooner because I would have liked to have been there at the service. My heart hurts and I will have to deal with missing him. I send my deepest condolences to his partner, his kids, his family and the many friends that I known will miss the presence of Mike. Sending love from Montauk Julie Evans Brumm

Michael Romeo was a friend.
I know him through Donald Ambrico and I attended the funeral on Friday evening with him.
I saw Donald whispering to him as he said goodbye and i was crushed by what I observed.
I did some legal work to protect him, Ryan and Stretch once and i was glad to do so. I am a
fisherman and a lawyer and I protect fishermen because they fish and work so hard, the elements
are against them, the laws are against them, it is a difficult life and my dad was a party boat owner
and a commercial fisherman. I gladly do it for very little. I know he was a fantastic fisherman and
that he bought Donald's mako. I am happy to make a donation later in the week and I want his
family to know they can contact me (just ask around, everyone in
the Bay knows me). I am not interested in money but if there is anything I can do please let me know.
To me he passed way too soon, my truest condolences,
Joseph Giaramita, Esq..

I met Michael around 1978 as we hung out in similar circles. We fished together on the late captain Mike Brum's Shamrock. We lost touch over the years but I just found him on Facebook in the hopes of reconnecting with him, only to find out it was too late. So sad, he was a great guy from what I remember. My condolences to his family.

Mike was a giant of a man with a heart as big as his stature. He was so likeable/loveable, soft-spoken, kind, caring and always had a wide smile on his face. Yes, he was a true seafarer at heart and had a tremendous love for the ocean and the waters surrounding NYC. That love of the sea was only eclipsed by his immeasurable love for his family. I enjoyed every time we got together for family celebrations. I will treasure always the story of his midnight beer run with my wife Susan at John and Brittany's wedding after-party at the Doubletree Hotel in Charlotte. I am sure your spiritual boat immediately set sail directly to Heaven for a glorious reunion with your parents and brother.

Big Mike was one of those guys who could make you feel like the most important person in the room. Loved being on the water with him, and loved having a couple of Mich Ults with the guy. RIP, Romeo. You made an impact.

Although I knew Mike for a relatively short time, he treated me like we were childhood friends. The things he taught me about fishing and the sea will never be forgotten. Rest in peace Mike, you are missed.

My cousin Mike was like my brother. Our families were so close growing up and we spent so much of our younger years together. As the years went by we saw less of each other but when we got together it was like we were kids again. He was funny and always had a joke to tell. He will be missed by everyone who he touched in his life. I will miss him very much. He was a gentle giant.
