Obituary of Michael H. Matthews
Michael H. Matthews, 73, passed away on October 4, 2023. He was born on February 11, 1950 in Brooklyn, NY to Harry and Gertrude (nee DuPaul) Matthews.
Michael grew up in Park Slope, Brooklyn, NY. He graduated from Bishop Ford High School. After high school, he attended Brooklyn College for his undergrad before completing both an MBA and a M.A. in History at Fordham University.
Michael married Mary Hearon in 1976, and they were happily married for nearly 47 years. He was a devoted father and husband. Michael greatly enjoyed participating in the community of Breezy Point, where he made his family's home in 1996.
He cherished a long career as a university professor and loved educating students about history in the classroom. Prior to this he was a real estate appraiser.
Michael was preceded in death by his parents Harry and Gertrude, and is survived by his wife Mary, his daughters Debbie (Michael) Valentine and Kim Matthews, and his grandson Lucas Valentine.
The wake will be held at Marine Park Funeral Home (3024 Quentin Rd, Brooklyn, NY 11234) Sunday, October 8th from 2:00 - 6:00 PM and Monday, October 9th from 2:00 - 5:00 PM and 7:00 -9:
Burial will immediately follow in St. Charles Cemetery, Farmingdale, NY.
