Kathleen Battista

Obituary of Kathleen Redpath Battista

Kathleen Redpath Battista of Rockaway Point passed away on July 17, 2023 after suffering from a sudden stroke.

Kathleen was born in Brooklyn, NY in 1943 to Alice (Barnard) Redpath, and Joseph Redpath.

As a child, Kathleen enjoyed visiting her grandmother who lived on Lincoln Walk in Breezy Point. Kathleen and her grandmother shared a special connection, similar to the bond Kathleen currently has with her grandchildren.

Kathleen was a proud graduate of Saint Brendan’s High School class of 1960. She graduated with her Bachelors in Psychology from Immaculata University in 1964. She then pursued an Accecelerated Masters Program in Education at Saint John's University in 1965.

Once she graduated from Saint John’s, she spent her career teaching students in the NYC public schools, where she greatly influenced the lives of many until her retirement in the early 2002.

Kathleen spent her summers in Rockawa Point beginning in 1976 and moved there full-time in 1998 when their youngest son graduated from college. Kathleen and her husband designed and built their current home in RockawayPoint.

Kathleen is survived by her husband of 54 years, William, her three sons William, Robert (Laura), and Brian, her three granddaughters Kristen, Mia and Ava as well as her brothers Robert and Peter.

Kathleen had a full and productive life enjoying her family, friends and traveling. She was a woman of great faith, fully commited to her Catholic Faith.

Her family wishes to thank Ed Valentine and the Rockaway Point Fire Department Volunteers for their wonderful assistance in Kathleen’s last terrible illness as well as their repsonse over the years to Kathleen's calls for help. Our community is blessed by their presence.

It is the family wish that instead of flowers, donations be made to the Rockaway Point Volunteer Fire Department, 204-26 Rockaway Point Boulevard, Breezy Point, NY 11697.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Marine Park Funeral Home, 3014 Quentin Road, Brooklyn, NY 11234 with the wake services on Monday July 24 at 2:00 - 4:00 PM and 6:00 - 9:00 PM.
