Nunzio Mastromarino

Obituary of Nunzio Mastromarino

Nunzio Mastromarino- dedicated husband, father of two, grandfather of three, and friend of many - passed away on October 20th, 2022, at the age of 83. Born to Emilia and Carmine Mastromarino on November 25th 1938, Brooklyn was Nunzio’s home for his entire life. It is where he built his life long friendships, his import/export company, Thor Air Freight, his beautiful home on Avenue R, and met his one of a kind wife, Annette. Nunzio and Annette met at Holy Innocents Elementary School. They fell in love many years later, were married on October 17th 1965, and filled their lives with beautiful friendships, joyful memories, and so much fun. Nunzio was the proud father of two daughters, Sandra and Diane, and became a Grandfather to Sandra and Stephen’s twin boys, Matthew and Christopher (17), and Diane and Matt’s daughter, Natalie (9).

Anyone who knew Nunzio is well aware that his love for horse racing ran deep. He also loved sports. From playing baseball on Cortelyou Road, to jogging around Marine Park, to playing bocce in Breezy Point, to bowling on a league with his daughter and sister on Staten Island, to shooting hoops in Pt. Pleasant, to golfing just about anywhere, Nunzio was happiest when he was being active. He also enjoyed being a spectator and fan, and could be found in the stands of an Islanders or Jets game all season long. As soon as his grandsons, Christopher and Matthew, were old enough to hold a ball, Nunzio brought the game of baseball into their lives. He loved practicing with them and watching them play, and he left this world proud, knowing they are playing college baseball now.

Nunzio was strong, generous, quiet, and kind. He loved eating delicious meals at Gargulio’s restaurant, playing craps in Atlantic City, dancing with his beautiful wife, spending time with old friends, driving fast, playing the drums, and taking care of his family.

Though Nunzio will be deeply missed, there is joy in knowing he is reunited with the love of his life, Annette, his favorite siblings, Mario, Phyllis, and Sara, and many other extraordinary people that he loved very much.

Forever In Our Hearts

Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May Nunzio's soul and all the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
