Obituary of George W. Simonson

George Simonson, 69, currently of Brooklyn, passed away suddenly on Friday, March 25, 2022 at Coney Island Hospital in Brooklyn, NY. George was born in Brooklyn in 1953 and grew up with a love for any sport which quickly developed into a passion for baseball. He pitched for Franklin K. Lane High School and was awarded athlete of the year in 1971. He was scouted by many major league teams including the New York Yankees and was recognized by the the NY Daily News.  George married his high school sweetheart, Helen in 1974 and together they built a beautiful family and travelled the world together on multiple cruises. 

There was nothing George couldn't fix - evident in all the home renovations he completed throughout the years. He loved to cook and taught himself by watching many cooking shows. Everyone of his family and friends will miss his famous rice balls and escarole soup. There was never any doubt when George was in a room- his boisterous laugh and joking nature was infectious. 

George is survived by his wife Helen; his daughters Jaime Spano and her husband Steven, Amanda Biondo and her husband Thomas; 5 grandchildren, Thomas, Isabella, Nicholas, Giuliana and Santino; mother-in-law, Dorothy Kamna; his sisters Madeline Krouskroup, Gail Osorio, Joan Pesce; brother-in-laws John Pesce, Harry Kamna, Frank Schmidberger and sister-in-laws Virginia Kamna and Ann Schmidberger, as well as 23 nieces and nephews and 7 great nieces and nephews. 

Wake service will be on Tuesday March 29, 2022 from 2:00 to 5:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 PM at MarinePark Funeral Home. 3024 Quentin Road Brooklyn, NY 11234, 718-339-8900.

Funeral mass will be on Wednesday March 30, 2022 at Resurrection Roman Catholic Church for 9:30 AM. 2325 Gerritsen Avenue Brooklyn, NY 11229.
