Being the youngest in my family with older brothers and sisters, I was thrilled to hear that my cousin would be coming from Ireland to live with us. At the age of 17, Mary Kate made her long journey from County Clare to 35th Street, Marine Park section of Brooklyn. With open arms, we couldn’t be happier to have her with us. She was not just my cousin she was more like a baby sister to me. I remember the times my mother would watch my small children so Mary and I could go
to the ice cream shop. It was on Avenue S and 35th street.. it felt like we were a million miles away.. we would spend hours talking and laughing in the ice cream shop.We were so close that she was the godmother to my son Michael and I am the godmother to her beautiful daughter Ann. She treated each and every one of my children as if they were her own.. she changed many many diapers of my 9 children. She was a blessing to me as a young mother with a big tribe. I was always so proud of Mary as I watched her marry Pat and have a family of her own. She was a wonderful mother and remained faithful to her Catholic faith that she loved and raised her children in the same way. Her family and her faith remained her constant focus in her life. She greeted everyone with so much love and joy. She was a bright light in my life as she was in the lives of many who knew her. Her children, Ann, Mary, Patrick, John, Colleen and Tommy, exemplify the same light as their mother did and are so precious to me. Rest In Peace my baby sister and know that your love remains here with us eternally. Love, Jean

Our beloved Mary, you have been a shining light to us, always smiling with your beautiful brogue. I'll always remember You watching me when I was a little girl and telling me that I really didn't have to change my aress 3 or 4 times A-day And I was telling you that I had to because I love to dress up and and you said also I had to change my shoes multiple times telling that even though I left a pile of crumpled dresses on my bed you enjoyed enjoyed watching the different dress changes. It's stuck with me and every time you told me this story it made me smile because I remember the feeling you gave us the feeling that we were special to you. I was always mesmerized by the amazing mother you are and how devoted you were to Uncle Pat , How much your grandchildren loved and adored you And how you were such a loving cousin to my mom. You never spoke of your own self you always asked more about others. Our papa and nana adored you, as you have always been such a beautiful piece of our family puzzle and like a daughter to them. I will miss you terribly all my sisters and brothers will miss you so sadly also and my mom willl carry the love of her cousin in her heart for all eternity. She was so close to you and loved you greatly. Thank you for the countless memories and great times always with with all of your wonderful O'Dea family. May you rest in eternal joy with with our Almighty Father May He welcome you with open arms, May He comfort your family. As with each time I approach moyne scariff you and den will be forever on my mind. Give Uncle Pat a big hug for us We will be here for your children. I am sorry for the loss of such a wonderful woman as Mary. I remember her well from Ryder St. where she babysat my oldest daughter way back in the early 70''s. There was always so much love in her home. She worked tirelessly to make due for her large family and there was always room for one more kid. One of my fondest memories is one day I went to try on something in Alexanders in the Mall and she told me that the item just wasn't for me and found something better suited. She will be remembered by all who knew her with the fondest memories. May her children, grandchildren and extended family keep her safe in your hearts forever. I know she has a special place in mine.

One of my earliest memories was my mom taking me to Resurrection Church for Mary & Pat’s wedding. They were both such wonderful people. I spent a lot of time with my grandparents and Aunt Joan on East 35street. My aunt would take me down to Mary and Pats apartment to have tea with Mary. She always made a fuss when I came, sitting me at the table with them. I loved listening to Mary’s stories and hearing her laugh. She was always happy and she made others happy with her positive outlook and her love for her family and friends. And as Mary’s family grew, she was never too busy to keep in touch, to stop and talk and have a cup of tea. I have so many lovely memories of seeing Mary over the years especially when she would visit my grandmas house.
All of the Flanigan and Musinski families were so saddened to hear of Mary’s passing. We all send our deepest condolences to the O’Deas. Mary will be missed, but we know she is in heaven with her beloved Pat and smiling down on all of us.

My dearest memories visiting Brooklyn was running to Aunt Mary’s apartment downstairs from Nana & Papa. Her eyes lit up & had a huge smile when all the kids came running in. She made sure she had special treats for each one of us. She absolutely Loved children which is evident by her own children & grandchildren staying so close to her (both physically & emotionally). She always loved celebrating with our big gang also. What a special time we had at Colleens bridal shower this past September. Every celebration & time we had with her was priceless. We were truly blessed with her Love. I could never get enough of her beautiful Irish smile & eyes & her true interest in others. God blessed us all with her love for Faith & Family. God rest her soul & perpetual light shine upon her.

I can still remember as a child.. my favorite place to go was to Brooklyn.. Aunt Marys house in particular! Even though she had a bunch of kids, there was something about Aunt Mary that I loved the most. She always greeted us with a huge smile and a big hug. She really cared about each and every person and made me feel so special. God rest your beautiful soul Aunt Mary. Until we meet again, May God hold you in the palms of His hands. I love you ❤️
