Obituary of Mary M. Whelan

Mary "Moya" Whelan (nee McDonnell) born in St. Mary's Hospital, Paddington, London to Anne and Martin McDonnell. Raised in Ballaghaderreen, Co. Roscommon, Ireland. She died peacefully in her home on Feburary, 15, 2022. Mom was 83 years old and was surrounded by her loving husband and children when she passed.

Moya emigrated from Ireland to Brooklyn, New York in 1959. Met her husband John from Tipperary, Ireland in Brooklyn. Got married in November 1962 and raised their five children.

Moya is survived by her beloved husband John and her five daughters; Anne, Mary (Bob), Catherine, Patricia (Keith) MacDonald, and Bernadette (Robert) Green. She loved and was loved and cherished by her eight grandchildren: John, Thomas, Alice, Brian, Kristin, Michael, James, and Jack. The loving oldest sister to Pauline (predeceased), Olive, Patricia, and Bernadette. She is also survived by her many nieces and nephews that she loved and cared for very much.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Mary's memory to the Tunnels to Towers Foundation.

The visitation for Mary M. Whelan will be held at Marine Park Funeral Home on Friday, February 25, 2022, from 2:00 to 7:00 PM. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Columba Roman Catholic Church on Saturday, February 26, 2022, at 10:00 AM. The Committal Service will immediately follow at St. John Cemetery.
