Our deepest condolences. Our family owned the wholesale business next to the 84 Precinct. Most of the policemen would come in and say hello. My family would enjoy when Pat would come in because he was such a interesting man. We all thought of him in high regard. May his memory be a blessing!

We were not his immediate family… Lord knows it is one big immediate family: 6 kids, 13 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren… but he was Bill’s first cousin, their mom’s were sisters. He passed away the other night, a heart attack, and I’m just remembering some of the times we spent together. He came to our wedding. He came to our children’s baptisms. He came for birthdays . He came to Luke’s wedding in Virginia. He came to Keith’s wedding in NJ. He came to Casey’s wedding In Colorado. He came to Bill’s parents 50th anniversary party… and so many other family gatherings. He also came just for the BBQ's to hang and chat. He came to NYC and walked with us for the global climate march. He came to Casey’s Irish Dance competition. He came to visit Bill’s mom and take her to lunch… and also came to visit her in the nursing home after her stroke.
Pat always took the time to come, to be present… to celebrate with you or try to cheer you. He cared. We will all miss his sweet presence in our lives. Rest in Peace Patrick. Love, Billy and Sue

To Our Very Dear Neighbors: Lenore and the Devlin Family:
Our deepest condolences to Lenore and the Devlin family. Pat was a great man and a most wonderful neighbor who accomplished a lot.
Pat has always made himself available and always was of much assistance whenever we knocked on the door, even when it was an inconvenient time. He respected our family and we really appreciated that.
Living next door and growing up, we all have the fondest memories of Pat, at every stage of our childhood. We even remember Pat snapping pictures of us, as if we were his very own grandchildren. Pat was happy to stop and schmooze, and hear about what we were up to. He was always so glad to join us at our Bar Mitzva and Wedding celebrations.
Pat’s immense respect for our religion meant so much to us. He never forgot the Jewish holidays, always sending a card or calling, even when he was away.
We really enjoyed having Pat as our neighbor and he will be sorely missed!
May the entire family be comforted and may his soul Rest in Peace.
The Rosners

Was my C O in the 70. Straight guy, but fair. Many years later I would see him walking in the field on avenue K. On a Saturday where I would walk to. First time I met him , he pulled up to the garage @ 70. I had no uniform on and jumped out of a marked radio car . He looked at me and I quickly said I was his I C O an I’ll see him in a few. I was just a cop ( lol ) To his family I offer my condolences. RIP.

Dear Lenore
I remember pat to be a great man. He always greeted me nicely and we always had to share some great words. He was just such a nice all around special person who had feelings for everybody. I remember there was a shabbos in 2015 where he can see I was suffering from a lot of pain and he spoke to me privately to help me out. I will really miss him.
Sincerely Yehoshua from east 28tg

Dear Lenore and the entire Devlin Family:
May God console you from the pain of this loss. As neighbors on East 28th Street for many years, I only have the fondest memories of Pat. He is one of the most genuine and kind people that I know. I hope to learn from his admirable character traits and try my best to inculcate them in my own life.
This must be such a difficult time for you. I pray that God grant you the strength to recover (to the extent possible) from the pain of this loss.
May his soul be an advocate for your entire family for anything that you want / need and may his soul achieve tremendous closeness to God in heaven.

We have known Patrick for many years, and in all that time, we have never seen him lose his temper or even raise his voice. He never had a harsh word for anyone and was liked and respected by all.
He was the consummate host. He always had your favorite drink (or could mix up a new cocktail that became your favorite). You can be sure, he even had the food you loved.
Many is the time at restaurants when we scrambled to grab the check. If Pat didn’t get it first, his reply was “Don’t worry, I’ll get you next time,” - and he always managed to keep that promise.
When he and Lenore came to visit us, our friends, instantly became their friends too.
He was a major presence in our family and will be greatly missed.
Rest In Peace dear brother-in-law.

With deepest sympathy to Lenore and to the Devlin Family. Patrick Devlin was one great man. He was a very respected and revered boss in the New York City Police Department. To me, he was a great boss, a mentor and a friend. If anyone represents a person the NYPD could be so proud of, Chief Patrick Devlin is one. We should all be so lucky to have such a person around us and touch our hearts as this man did. May you Rest in Peace my friend and brother. You will be missed by all. There are great men who have walked this earth, and you truly are one of them. I am blessed to have known you and to have worked for and alongside you. My prayers for you and your family. With love to your family, Kathy Ryan (retired Chief NYPD)
ps - He had the greatest smile. I will always remember that smile, thank you. :)

Patrick was the loving husband of my dear cousin, Lenore. I am shocked and saddened to hear that he has passed away. He was a good man, a loving husband, father and grandfather. I am heartbroken for Lenore, the children and his grandchildren. He served the City loyally and well, as a valued member of NYPD; but his true legacy will be the love that he gave to his family and friends.

In the 1990’s I was assigned as a Lieutenant to the Operations Unit. Chief Devlin, would on occasion be assigned as the “midnight duty chief”. All of the Chiefs were very gracious. However, Chief Devlin always stopped by for a chat. The conversation was always special. Chief Devlin was a very special man; salt of the earth , who had not forgotten where he came from. It was a privilege to know him & to have worked for him. I extend my sincerest condolences on your ( and society’s) loss in his passing.
Sincerely,
William J Furlong
