Isidro Padilla

Obituary of Isidro Padilla

Husband, Father, Brother, Educator, Coach, Friend;

Isidro Padilla Jr., passed away on Wednesday, The 27th of January, 2021 in his home with his wife, Aida by his side.

Issie, as he was known, was son to Puerto Rican immigrants, Isidro Sr., and Olga Padilla and was the eldest of 4; Eddy, Yvonne, and Augustine Padilla.

Issie wore many hats in life but foremost was an educator and coach for over 41 years- most notably as a New York City Teacher who taught all grade levels from childhood to high school in home-instruction until his retirement in 2017. Issie obtained a Masters of Science in Education Degree, trained in Physical Education, Special Education and education for severe & profoundly impaired & emotionally disturbed. During that 40 year span, he spent time as an assistant baseball coach at Temple University and Penn State. When offered an opportunity with the MLB’s Pittsburg Pirates, he declined because he did not want to be away from his family. Instead, he would go on to coach boys JV and Varsity Baseball, boys Varsity Soccer, Girls Varsity Softball, Swimming and Basketball for Nazareth High School in Brooklyn. Of His many accolades, the varsity boys 2005 15-1 season culminating in the PSAA City Championship was amongst his most cherished.

Issie Padilla was known as a charming and charismatic leader, befitting a first born. He took pride in his booming “catcher’s voice” which was easy to recognize in any space. Issie had an inquisitive mind and enjoyed learning; he loved puzzles and riddles which also suited him well with planning team lineups. He melted hours away analyzing the sports he loved. Issie enjoyed debating, telling stories and was not afraid to voice his opinions. He had a quick wit and a wide-reaching sense of humor from slapstick to wordplay. He had a flare for the dramatic and when given a stage, his inner entertainer would blossom in surprising ways.

Above all, Isidro Padilla Jr., cherished his family, extended family and friends. His loyalty and selflessness, his dedication to “being there” to all he touched is perhaps he greatest legacy: his honesty, the lessons he taught, the example he provided — Isidro Padilla Jr., sacrificed and gave; he dedicated himself to always being there and he never failed.

Issie Padilla Jr., is survived by his wife Aida Loperena-Padilla, son Javier and daughter Shalimar Padilla-Loperena, his brothers Eddy, Augustine and sister, Yvonne Padilla and all their families.

May he rest in Eternal Peace and Glory until we meet again...We Love you.

Forever In Our Hearts

Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May Issie's soul and all the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
