John Tobin

Obituary of John B. Tobin

John B. Tobin, age 91, of Brooklyn entered into eternal rest on Friday, December 25, 2020.

Jack was born to Nora and John Tobin on October 5, 1929 brother to Bernard Dougherty and Thomas Tobin. He graduated St. Catherine of Genoa, Erasmus Hall, and attended Brooklyn College.

He joined the United States Navy in 1949 and entered the New York City Police Department in 1953. He rose to the rank of detective and was a member of the Honor Legion with numerous citations while serving on the force. Upon retirement from the police department in 1978, he became the owner of the Mariners Inn where he enjoyed forty two years of camaraderie, developing many friendships which served as extensions of his own family -- his true pride and joy. He was a man of faith who loved his family and his country. He is survived by his wife of sixty eight years Mary, children John (Debbie), James (Mary), Mary Kate (Stephen), grandchildren Brendan, Aidan, Maggie, Kristin, Connor, Rory, cousins Diane Mercier and Joan Doherty, brother in law John O'Neill, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May John's soul and all the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
