Michael O'Brien

Obituary of Michael F. O'Brien

Michael O’Brien, lifelong resident of southern Brooklyn, was born on September 21, 1946 to parents Francis O’Brien and Roselle Litterst O’Brien.  Michael passed away on August 31, 2020 at the age of 73 due to complications related to recently found cancer.

Michael proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1965 to 1971 as a cannoneer in the 4th Infantry Division.  He was deployed to Vietnam where he reached the rank of Specialist E-4.  As a civilian, he continued to serve his country and community, volunteering where he could, and found a home with his fellow patriots at Post 107 of the VFW, where he served as Post Commander among other roles.

After serving in the Military, Michael Married and had four children, Michael O’Brien, Christine O’Brien, Patricia O'Brien Greenwood (Paul), and Frank O’Brien (Dawn-Marie), who survive him along with his Sister Patricia O’Brien Stump, and Grandchildren, James Ciullo, Michael O’Brien (Danielle), Amanda Greenwood, Nicholas Ciullo, Annamarie O’Brien, Ryan Greenwood, Joseph O’Brien, and Theresa O’Brien.

Michael worked his way through college and received his Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Brooklyn College in 1979, which he was very proud of.  Michael’s professional career included positions at Dean Witter, L.F. Rothschild & Co. Inc., and Morgan Stanley.

During retirement, Michael loved spending time with his family and friends, and persuing his passion, writing.  He loved writing his story and in 2015, his short story “Reflections (On a Sunday Morning; On a Barroom Mirror)” was published as part of the Veterans Writing Workshop in “Afterwords At the End of the Day”.

Everyone that met Michael knew him as a man with great honor, character, and pride.  He will be extremely missed by all he crossed paths with.
