As I was walking around Marine Park this morning I took this picture and it reminds of another mighty tree that has fallen, My Big Brother Joe. I apologize if this post comes too late for his memorial but as we comb through his belongings I’ve been reflecting on his life. As our sister Ann mentioned in her beautiful eulogy Joe was into many things: meditation, holistic medicine, vitamins, herbal cures and spirituality. A search for inner peace and happiness.
We heard from many friends, coworkers and acquaintances of all his wonderful traits: generosity, trustworthiness, compassion, cheerfulness and selflessness. These are the things we should all aspire to in our lives and Joe had it all along, right there inside of him. Everyone who knew him saw it, I just wish that Joe saw this in himself and realized the effect he had on us.
I pray he finds eternal peace and happiness.
Rest Big Brother, rest.

Joe was my first best friend in life. Born just 4 days apart, we went all the way from Kindergarten at PS 203, to Mary Queen of Heaven school for 1-8. We shared the same classes, teachers, MQH Little League teams ( where our dads were coaches), favorite TV shows (Combat wand the Rat Patrol too), and just about everything else.
Joe’s qualities let him be the best best friend a kid could have, and he carried those qualities all through his life. A good person who came from wonderful people.
He and his whole wonderful family will forever be inextricably interwoven into many of the very happiest memories of my life, and lthough our paths diverged, Joe has always been and will always be dear to my heart.
We will meet again

I am at a loss for words. A humble selfless and kind man. I worked in Joe's section many times while at 18 and always had a good day. Joe B was respected and will surely be missed by all of his coworkers.

Joe, another deep and great loss to our family. We are swimming in fond memories of childhood games of Combat and snowball fights and so many Easters and Christmases and birthday parties. Our cute lil YiaYia and Uncle Andy cracking Easter eggs on his head. Your race cars and cool boy toys that we got to play with together. And sleepovers. And the summer you all came to Albany. And all the beach trips to Riis Park...The Bear Went Over The Mountain song. God bless you Joe, you are forever a part of us, we will always miss you and your sweet, loving nature. We love you! Your cousins Vicki and Toni

I met Joe in the early 80s when he was hanging with my sister Lydia. They were best friends then and remained best friends until her passing. When Lydia married and had Kathryn, he fell in love with that baby, showered her with affection and became her Uncle Joe. When Kat was 3 and her father died, Joe took over the job, helping my sister in anyway he could. When Lydia passed, Kat was only 11 and he became her D'Uncle Joe (Daddy/Uncle). I was appointed her guardian and will be forever grateful that Joe was in her life. I hated shopping and was no longer mobile enough to take her to the city, so he took her on whole day trips to the mall shopping or down to the city to the museums and Broadway shows. Joe helped us move Kathryn to and from college and then helped her move out to Colorado. She couldn't have asked for a more attentive, concerned, loving D'Uncle and he will be greatly missed. RIP D'Uncle Joe, Love you, Nydia

I only met him a few times but he radiated love and adoration for Kathryn. He was easy to get along with and nice to be around— pleasure in a world where so many seem closed off and hidden behind masks.
The pain is great and the fear of life without them may feel unbearable, but I believe they always hear us and are always with us. Like we get to know God by special relationships on earth, who, when those loved ones die, and join with all our ancestors, now take their place beside the saints to intercede on our behalf and connect us to more love.
Kathryn, Nydia, Lydia, my love and empathy as you journey on this road to a new relationship with Joe. I just know mom is walking beside him on the road to her resting and guiding place. Xo Sarah
