Obituary of John Paul Ciminelli, Sr.

It is with great sadness that the Ciminelli family announces the passing of their father, John Paul Ciminelli, Sr. John was born on October 12, 1928, on Brooklyn Avenue, to Eleanor Huntington & Nicholas L Ciminelli. He grew up in the Flatlands section of Brooklyn, where he was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Parish.

John attended Berk Trade School for Plumbing Theory and Design and worked alongside his father in his neighborhood business: Nicholas L Ciminelli & Son, Plumbing & Heating.

John was a very proud, gung-ho Marine. At the age of 75, he tattooed the Marine Corps insignia on his arm. As a Staff Sergeant, in the First Marine Division, 1st Battalion, 5th Marines, Weapons Company, John proudly served in the United States Marine Corps from 1948 to 1952, where he bravely engaged in the Battle of the Chosin Reservoir, during the Korean War. John is a member of “The Chosin Few”, a life member of the 1st Marine Division Association, and a member of the New York Chapter.

In 1958, he married the love of his life, Theresa Elaine Quaranta. They resided in the Marine Park area, where they raised eight children: Eleanor, Nicholas, Marie, Jacqueline, Elaine, John Paul, Diane and Ronald. Because we were blessed with exceptional parents, our family has remained closely knit through the years. After the passing of our mom, in 1983, John continued to raise a loving family, who adored him, and spent as much time with him as possible. He was a totally devoted father and grandfather, who called his children his “treasure” in life. There are no words to express how much he will be missed by his beloved children and grandchildren.

John passed away peacefully at home on June 6, 2020 surrounded by his children. John is predeceased by his loving wife Theresa and his beloved sister, Jane McNicholas. John is survived by his brother, William (Bill) Ciminelli, his brother-in-law, John McNicholas, his 8 children and their spouses: Eleanor & Jim Gallis, Nicholas & Jeanette Ciminelli, Marie & Carlo Caruso, Jacqueline & John Montemarano, Elaine & Michael Savitz, John Paul Ciminelli, Jr., Diane & Sal Fontana, and Ronald Ciminelli, and his 14 grandchildren: Olga Torre & John Gallis, Nicholas & James Ciminelli, Theresa & Regina Caruso, Jada Montemarano, Julie, Douglas, Jamie, & Olivia Savitz, and Francesca, Salvatore, & Valentina Fontana.
