Lucille, Sarah, Andrew and James Tangel loved Aunt Irene so very, very much. She was always our family, and we were always her family. It makes us cry to even think of her passing. She was so positive, such a caring soul. She was always so thoughtful -- so selfless, thinking of others before herself. Irene was truly an Angel among us and helped so many, probably more than she ever knew. She had a great sense of humor, and her personality was larger than life. She won last year’s Kentucky Derby, was so thrilled, and was waiting for this year’s Derby. She will always be very special to us. Her kindness and goodness will be with us forever. Irene did so many deeds of Mercy for God’s people, comforting sick friends and relatives, and supporting those who were weary. Jesus must have been so very pleased with her. She will be greatly missed and never be forgotten. -- Lucille Tangel and family, Louisville, Ky.

Aunt Irene, you were deserving of every positive superlative in the dictionary. One of the kindest, most loving, most attentive, most supportive, most selfless women I ever knew. You were especially wonderful to me and Andrew since we moved to the city. I miss you so much already, and it pains me to imagine a post-covid trip to Brooklyn without you in it. May your memory be a blessing. You will always be in our hearts.

My beautiful Aunt Irene: I love and miss you so very much. We were always so close and it seems impossible that you are no longer here on Earth with us. Over the past ten years you and Uncle Tom were there for me when I moved back to Long Island after Matt and Jill died. You both stepped into the role of being like a Mother and Father after my Dad (your brother) and my Mom passed away. I was so blessed to spend almost every weekend with you in Southampton. You brought so much joy and healing into my life. We talked about so many things we never shared with anyone else. You were my confidant and best friend. I will always love you and will always be forever grateful that God gave me an Aunt as special as you. Thank you for everything! Rest in peace my dear sweet Aunt! Love always, Joanne

Aunt Irene,
You left us too quickly and too soon. Your huge heart left such an impression on me and my family. My kids play with the toys you got them still (a Hess truck and a puppy that barks and wags his tail). Whenever they grab those toys I feel my heart fill with your love and presence. Thank you for all the ways you loved us and supported us. You will remain in our hearts always.
Love, Corinne, Spencer, Harrison & Emory Bolander

I cannot believe you are gone. I miss you already as you were my favorite aunt. My father adored you, his only sister and my hubby and children loved you beyond words. You treated my girls like they were your very own. I will never forget when we selected the Westhampton venue for Lauren‘s wedding. She was in Europe at the time and you and Uncle Tom jumped in the car in a moment’s notice to meet us at the venue and do the tasting and select the food for her wedding reception. What a fun day that was! You will always be in my heart.
