Obituary of James Brolly

James was welcomed into Paradise by our Heavenly Father, a choir of angels, loving family, and friends on May 9, 2020, after, as special friends noted," a golden heart has stopped beating ".

Born in Brooklyn on March 31, 1939, to James and Margaret ( Trainor ) Brolly, he was the firstborn of their four children. His dearly loved parents, sister, Mary, and brother, Michael ( and Michael's wife, Patricia ) predeceased him. Jim was a kind, selfless, humble, compassionate, generous, hard-working man, with a keen sense of humor and quick wit. He deeply treasured his family and family values. Jim attended Our Lady of Perpetual Help Elementary School, St. Michael's High School, and St. John's University before serving 16 months in the U.S. Army. He was given a hardship, honorable discharge at age 26 to return home to his younger siblings after both of his parents passed away within 6 months of each other. In 1997, he retired from Gruntal and Co. after working 40 years on the trading floor of the New York Stock Exchange.

Jim was a devoted parishioner of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church for more that 40 years. It was there, in 1983, that he married the love of his life, Maureen Ann ( Coonan ) Brolly, whom he affectionately called " my Annie ". Since then, they have lived in Marine Park. They have been parishioners of Good Shepherd Church.

Jim was an avid Brooklyn Dodger fan, then a reluctant Mets fan after his "team" moved to L.A. For many years he and Maureen enjoyed " getting away from it all " to their Catskill vacation home in Frost Valley, N.Y. He also enjoyed horse racing and travel until his legal blindness and other health issues curtailed those activities. However, he never lost pleasure in dining out in his favorite places.

Jim is survived by his beloved " Annie ", his brother, John, sister-in-law, Kathleen, his loving nieces Margaret, Patricia, Marybeth, Kathleen, Kerry, Sharon, Maryanne, Victoria, and his nephew, John ( Jack ). He is also survived by great nieces and great nephews as well as great, great nieces, and a great, great nephew.

A memorial Mass and celebration of Jim's extraordinary life will be scheduled at a later date.
