En memoria de mi Tío Leobardo a pesar de no verlo por muchos años, siempre lo recordaremos mi esposa y yo por sus grandes detalles de que año con año nos enviaba una tarjeta con motivo de la navidad y año nuevo y que el sobre ponía así " Ángel y esposa" escribiendo de su puño y letra palabras de felicitación y deseando nos pasáramos esas fiestas con mucha alegría y en unión de nuestra familia, se por mi mamá Virgen que siempre fue un hombre trabajador y responsable en su trabajo y siempre existiendo esa unión familiar que era la base y el pilar para sostenerse siempre y salir adelante, vaya pues un mensaje de condolencias para su familia que es mi familia, y recordar siempre sus buenas acciones y el amor que le tuvo a su esposa, hijos y nietos, rogándole al Señor lo tenga en su Santa Gloria.

Gracias por la amistad, admiración y fortaleza espiritual que nos compartió la familia Peralta. Uncle Leo was quiet but always a person ready to support everybody in his path and a great example of what we call today resilience. Being a daughter of one of his wife cousins, I was blessed to receive his loving smile and guidance in my first visit and post in USA. Thanks forever. I felt truly part of the family. Rest in peace.

My uncle Leo was a younger brother of my dad Meliton and the last of the Peralta brothers. These brothers left families in Mexico to embark on the hard immigrant adventure to better themselves and their families. They were proud of who they were and where from but also proud to embrace America and became Americans. I only have fond memories of my uncle. Sadly, I didn't see him often enough....working and family life getting in the way. The times I did see him I was always greeted with a heartfelt warmth and smile. He was not a man of many words but you could always see the kindness and feel the love he had for his family. Whenever I asked how my cousins and their families were, he would light up and smile and update me on how his kids and grandchildren were doing. This was when I saw him most animated. What love and pride he had for them and their accomplishments!!
So to my cousins and Aunt Alicia..... I, we share in your grief
I choose to believe that he is at peace and has been met by his brothers and that together they will look after us. It can' the any other way....Family First!

I remember visiting Leo and Alicia in 2002 a year before Steven and I got married. They kept asking me what I wanted to eat and drink. It was mid afternoon so I wasn’t very hungry. I asked if they had coffee. Alicia said they had ....(instant or something similar). I wasn’t too keen on it so I passed it up. Leo asked me what coffee I wanted. I said I drink French Roast Starbucks. A little while later he appeared with a bag of Dunkin‘ Donuts and a great big specialty coffee just for me. It was so kind and thoughtful. I was so touched that he went out of his way to get me this drink. I will always remember him as a very thoughtful and kind soul. Unfortunately I didn’t always understand his English and asked for translations here and there. However, the language barrier wasn’t an issue when I felt his love and compassion. Until we drink coffee in Heaven......Rest in Peace, Leo. Love, Mary

My father accepted life’s ups and downs and lived his life to the fullest. He never complained about his aches and pains even though he had heart disease, diabetes and more recently hypotension and low blood platelets.
Our house was always filled with the music our parents loved: Mariachi music, Santana, Chubby Checker and my father’s favorite, Louie Armstrong. He even bought himself a trumpet and tried to teach himself how to play it. He also loved to dance with my Mom. He taught me all my Latin dance steps and often I got to be his dancing partner.
He enjoyed eating all types of cuisine, especially Mexican food. When I’d visit him at home in the last few months of his life, he’d ask me to stop by a local Mexican restaurant and buy him his “Pata” (pig’s feet) in green sauce or he’d ask us to make him some “Posole”. When we were little, he’d bring home all sorts of food from the grocery store he worked at, from Italian bread and candy (our favorite) to Matzo bread and Gefilte fish. He loved matzo ball soup. Later in life, he always wanted to share his love of cuisine with his grandchildren.
He’d tell us stories of his youth. One of my favorites was how he came to have the nickname “El Ingeniero”, the engineer. He had many friends in Mexico and all of them had a nickname for each other. My father’s came about while working on the buses to small towns in Puebla. He was dressed in a suit when he stopped to eat in a local restaurant with his friends. At the time, they were building a new road in town. When the waitress came to their table, his friends introduced him as one of the engineers working on the road. They told her to treat him right; that day they got to eat lots more food and received a reduction on the bill!
I thank my father for all the wonderful memories of life he left us. We were blessed! Love, Emma

The King Family – from Connecticut
Abuelo cared about his family so much. He traveled all around to see what his “nietos” were up to. He was so happy when his travels brought him to Mexico. He could often be found taking walks to the corner store, watering his flowers, eating with his family, watching sports, and wearing his baseball hat. He was usually quiet, but we loved when he would tell us stories or make us laugh with a joke. He always had a way of making sure that every one of his family members knew that they were loved and appreciated through his actions and loving nicknames. Some of our favorite memories were spent with our Abuelo. Our summers were spent piling up in his green car, going to Coney Island and Marine Park, with him treating us to ice cream cones and Nathan’s hot dogs. We will cherish those memories for the rest of our lives. He helped raise all three of us, and we loved his patience and playfulness. My memories of my dad are endless because we spent so many special times together. Even the smallest of memories like running to Met Food to pick up groceries for mom; I recall seeing dad hard at work, making sure he provided for us as best he could. He worked hard his whole life which is how he expressed his love for his family. To this day, I still tell the stories of our road trips from New York to Mexico. My friends cannot believe he drove 2,596 miles each way without Google Maps; just his paper TripTiks in hand and off we went. I think of all the early morning sunrises that we spent in dad's station wagon driving through open country, towns and cities; big and small. I am reminded of all those days when he woke up the family at 5AM to beat the heat. Living in Florida, I re-live those days each morning. As I step out to leave for work, the early morning hours, the dew in the air, the smell of wet grass, and the surrounding quietness will now and forever especially remind me of dad. I will gaze up to the night sky knowing he is looking down on me and I'll see his special smile under one of all those caps he collected over the years. I am proud to be his son and will always cherish my memories of him and will dearly miss his presence in my life. – Love, Steven

The Peralta Family – from Florida
Living in Florida kept us from being able to visit and spend time with our Abuelo as we would have like to. Still, we know that he loved us very much, and was always very proud to hear of our accomplishments. I was touched to know that Abuelo asked about Alexandra and me the last time he spoke to my Dad. I know that I, Matthew, will hold this close to my heart, and I speak for Alexandra, too. We will live out every day of our lives to make him proud, and to remember his legacy. Love, Matthew
Abuelo always loved all of us. Even though he is no longer here, he is watching over us. He made sure that we were happy and called us every birthday.
