Obituary of Frances English
It is with great sorrow that the family of Frances English announce her passing on October 23, 2019, at the age of 85 years.
Frances was the heart of her family and will be lovingly remembered by her six children, Lisa (Michael) Sweeney, John (Marjaneh) English, Bradley (Aimee) English, Victoria (William) English-Flanagan, William English, and Alyssa (William) English-Tway. "Granny" will also be forever remembered by her 15 grandchildren: Sean (Yngrid), Ryan, Dylan, Shannon, John, Samantha, Michael, Jillian, Justin, Isabelle, Jack, Connor, Caroline, Adam, Faith, and great-grandson, Sean Jr. She will also be fondly remembered by her sister, Gloria (Jack) Talty, her Sister-inlaw Joan (Harold) Breves and by her nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and neighbors. Frances was predeceased by her husband of 60 years, John, her parents Francis Joseph and Elizabeth (Bennettson) Johnson, and her sisters Elizabeth and Barbara.
Frances was born in Brooklyn on August 24, 1934. From the beginning, she lived a life dedicated to others. She was a devoted daughter and sister. Frances was a nurse for over 30 years, bringing comfort and aid to all of her patients. She was a person who always strove to make others feel better and had a natural gift for doing so.
Her giving and selfless attitude extended to her home life. Together, she and her husband, John, raised 6 children, 15 grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and many of the neighborhood kids as well. Frances always had a place in her home for anyone who needed a place to live, a place at her table for anyone who needed a meal, and a place on her lap for any of her children and grandchildren who needed a cuddle.
She was a devout Catholic, with a special devotion to Our Lady. Frances could often be found praying the Rosary and believed that there was no trouble that could not be overcome with prayer. Her life was an example of Christian service. If you were in need, Frances would be there to pray with you, counsel you, and comfort you- usually over a cup of tea.
Her loving and generous nature was supplemented by her quick wit and encyclopedic knowledge of every topic under the sun. John always said that Frances was the most intelligent person he'd ever met, a fact with which all of her family and friends wholeheartedly agree. While her loved ones are saddened by her death, they rejoice in the knowledge that she is reunited in heaven with John- where they are undoubtedly dancing together down heaven's streets. Frances will always be remembered as a mother to all and will live on in the hearts of all of the lives she touched.
