Obituary of John Russell

John Russell was born in Detroit Michigan on January 7, 1923. He graduated from Wilkes College in Wilkes-Barre, PA and settled afterwards in the New York City area. John was a 53-year Brooklyn resident. Beloved husband
of Frances Lagattuta Russell (married 1964). Loving father of Andrew & Michael (daughter-in-law Dana).
Grandfather of Bonnie. Great grandfather of JJ. WWII US Army veteran. Served in Italy & different parts
of Europe. 30 year career in the US postal service.

A great sports fan, John attended hundreds of games every year from the 1946 World Series until a
2008 stroke slowed him down. His favorite teams were the Mets, Yankees, Knicks & St. Francis Brooklyn
college basketball. He loved out of town golf trips with family. A people person, he loved to tell war
stories . Also an avid reader, John amassed a massive book collection.

The visitation will be held at Marine Park Funeral Home on Sunday, March 31 from 1:00 PM - 9:00 PM. The Mass of Christian Burial will be at St. Thomas Aquinas Roman Catholic Church on Monday April 1, 2019 at 10:30 AM - the family will be meeting at the funeral home at 9:00 AM. The Committal Service will be held at Long Island National Cemetery.
