Obituary of Louise O'Brien

Louise M. O'Brien passed away on Saturday August 27, 2016 at 86 years old. She is welcomed into Heaven by her loving husband James J. O'Brien. Louise was the daughter of Peter and Mary (nee Cavanna) Nastro. They were original natives of Red Hook, Brooklyn. Louise was the beloved mother of Veronica (Carl) O'Brien-Powell, and Ann O'Brien. She was the cherished grandmother of Louisa Mattera. Louise was 1 of 8 children who have all predeceased her; Theresa Eratico, Danny Nastro, Pete Nastro, Marie Trapani, Christin Belotti, Norma Hilberer, and Floyd Nastro. Louise has numerous cousins and other relatives. She was frequently visited during the last year of her life by Linda Scaturro, Michael Scaturro, Carolyn and Mike Galati, Peter Bellotti, Barbara Videtto, and Harry Woung. Louise's family would like to give a special acknowledgement to the two caretakers who gave Louise unconditional love and support throughout her last years; Kathleen McHugh and Noreen Goolijar. Kathleen was with Louise during her first year of support at home and greatly helped with her transition into hospice care. For the last 5 years of her life, Louise was cared for by Noreen. Noreen's dedication to Louise's well being never went unnoticed and she truly has become part of the family. Louise worked for a majority of her life as a telephone operator with Macy's. She enjoyed bowling with her Macy's club team during that time. She was always a homemaker at heart - she loved to cook and provide for her family. She had a great passion for gardening. She was happiest on the beach, and with her family. The visitation for Louise will be held at Marine Park Funeral Home on Wednesday August 31, 2016 from 2:00 - 5:00 PM and 7:00 - 9:00 PM. The Funeral Mass for Louise will be held at St. Columba Roman Catholic Chuch on Thursday September 1, 2016 at 10:00 AM. The family is meeting at the funeral home at 9:00 AM.
