So I don't hear from you for how long and I have to find out THIS is the reason? A likely excuse, pal. For anyone who may have just read that, please know that those of us in Pittsburgh, who knew Al too well, had to share in his wicked sense of humor or be forever the target of it. My best friend Mike and I did metal work with Al in the early 2000s and, I have to say, he was an amazingly creative cohort, but an even funnier comrade. The guy could be in the dumps worse than anything I've ever seen and he still went out of his way to make me laugh and have fun. I wrecked my car right in front of his apartment picking him up for work, one day, and I'll never forget the way the jerk immediately started laughing, hysterically, when a particularly large woman began berating me in the middle of the street. We called off work and he spent the rest of the day clowning and buying me beers. I'll remember that day forever. Obviously, it's been a while, but I just got the news today and it doesn't change the mark he left. I pray you're resting in peace in your mother's arms, compadre. Be at the gates when I get there, it's been way too long. McDegos rule!!! No offense to anyone who's offended.

I'm just now hearing of Al's passing and wanted to extend my condolences. I haven't spoken to Al in quite a few years but I have great memories of him. We met at Peters Valley and Al instantly made me laugh. I loved his raw genuine personality and just enjoyed being around him. I'm so very sorry to hear of his battle with cancer and applaud the fundraising I saw on his Facebook page. Rest in Peace, Al.

I am sorry for you loss. Al rented space in my building at 2132 E. Arizona St. in Phila.
I loved his work. I recently lost my husband, who worked in that building as a metal worker. He also recently died suddenly - 3 years ago - so I understand. He can be seen at www.phillipsmetal.com

I am truly sad for your loss. I met Al many moons ago when we lived close in Polish Hill. I met him at Gooskis bar and wanted to kick his ass over his smartass comments and attitude. Soon after we were buds and hung out for a time. I moved and lost touch. His heart was as big as his smartass attitude. The first time I saw some of his art, I said...."wow! I didn't think u had any time to create such great stuff between being a pain in the ass!" He laughed and said....."I'm awesome dude"...and he was. May time heal all of your hearts and remember, he is probably annoying St Peter until he wins him over as well! Rest easy Al. U will be missed.

Oh Al. You were the most authentic person in the world. You never were anything but 100% you at all times. You had a gruff exterior, but you also had a huge heart and were loyal to a fault. The world will be a little bit duller without you in it. I'll miss you ya jerk

I only met Al once many years ago, but I know what a good friend he has been to my son Hondo over the years and I know he will be surely missed. I cherish the Iron sculpture that he made and has hung over my fireplace for many years. My thoughts go out to his family and I wish you peace.

So much to say about someone I've known half my life. So many memories, so many laughs, so many good stories. The last time I saw you, you were telling me how excited you were about moving to NYC & everything that you were going to do there. Rest In Power, my friend.

First off you never told me Al was short for Alfred, which is a pretty cool name, btw. Words cannot convey how much I'm going to miss you. It's breaking my heart to know I'm never going to get another phone call from you. And thanks for making me cry again, and I know exactly what you would say if I told you you that I'm crying right now. I hope you find fun and adventures on your new journey, I would never tell you to RIP, because I know that is the last thing you'd want to spend all eternity doing. LOL. Anyway, farewell my brother. I will always love you and keep you in my thoughts. Till we meet again.

Al, I don't really know what to say yet at the same time I have a million things to say. You've been in my life longer than you haven't, I'm not sure how I'm suppose to carry on without you being there, I am forever changed by this. It goes without saying and you know this, that you are my best friend in the entire world and my world won't be the same without you, I love you dearly! I'm gonna torture you one last time with this verse from the Kansas song we joked about so much.
"Carry on my wayward son
There'll be peace when you are done
Lay your weary head to rest
Don't you cry,
Don't you cry no more".

Gone way too soon Al. Patricia and I reminisced about you and old times all day yesterday and there were so many good and funny memories. You made us laugh again. We met up after work and went to St. Patrick's Cathedral last night and lit candles for you. Patricia dug up old pics and they seemed like they were just yesterday. What I will remember most about you is your voice...I can still hear it. I wish you light and eternal peace. Nauny
