George Hoffman was my uncle and Godfather. He was always sending me history books and encouraging letters growing up. He is most definitely responsible for my fascination with history. Truly a wonderful man!

Our late father, Vito Gennaro, was a close friend and work colleague of George so we grew up knowing him. We all fondly remember what a gentle, kind yet strong man George was. My father had few true friends but George was always there for him and for that we are grateful. We extend our deepest sympathies for your loss but also for the world's loss.

I am truly saddened by the loss of Dr. George Hoffman.
I was a student at P.S. 179 in the 70's and Dr. Hoffman was a true leader, kind, and thoughtful. My fondest memories are his personalized notes for birthdays, milestones, and accomplishments. Dr. Hoffman took the time to speak with the students and find out their interests. His office door was always opened and students were welcome to speak with him...every student mattered. Dr. Hoffmann's example of leadership should be modeled by all educational leaders.
May he rest in peace.
Respectfully,
Melissa (Cawthon) Wagner

My sincere and heartfelt condolences to Arlene and all of George's cherished family, and to treasured Serafina as well. My 100 year old mother and I were blessed to correspond with him and be uplifted by his kind notes and inspiring cut outs and clippings. There seems to be some heavenly significance in his death on Father's Day considering how he mentored and nurtured so many, and on the 21st, the longest day of the year, reflecting his long life and the light of his spirit that brightened the lives of countless others. I will remember him with love and gratitude for the rest of my days. Again, our condolences to you and prayers for the repose of George's shining soul. -- Doris (&Margaret) Meyer

George became my friend. He received my calls graciously. He sent hopeful messages.
George was a great supporter of teachers and took a wide view of how to be helpful and loving. Some Christmases he provided toys to children of incarcerated persons.
I appreciated knowing George and felt the light of his faith in God and humankind.
