Obituary of Helena O'Hara

O'Hara - (nee Keane) Helena, after a strong and courageous battle was called to heaven on May 3, 2014. Beloved wife of the late William. Loving mother of Mary Chiarantano (Danny), Eileen, Thomas (Mary), Joan McAnuff (Terence), Geraldine Forde (Tom), and Brendan (Maria). Cherished grandmother of 16: Deirdre, Daniel, Bridget, Conor, Cormac, Devon, Ciara, Jack, Terence, Ryan, Caleigh, Sean, Liam, Michael, Emma and Justin. She was born in Glann Kilkelly, Co Mayo Ireland on September 10, 1931 to Thomas and Mary Keane. She was one of nine children and a loving sister to Michael, Delia, Martin, Mary, Tommy, Jimmy, Nancy and Patricia. She left her native home at the age of 18 to come to America and settled in Greenpoint, Brooklyn where she met and married William O'Hara from Bonniconlon, Co. Mayo on May 21, 1960. They moved to the Flatbush section of Brooklyn where they raised their six children. She was a faithful parishioner of Mary Queen of Heaven Parish for 42 years. She was a loving aunt and a true friend to many and will be missed. She will be sadly missed by her children, and grandchildren.
