Obituary of Frank Gambaro

Frank Gambaro, age 60, passed away on March 16, 2026, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Survived by his mother, Marie Gambaro and his stepmother, Denise Santanella. Predeceased by the late Frank Santanella and the late John Gambaro, whom he cherished as fathers. Frank’s life was a testament to the strength and love of family who stood beside him throughout his journey.

Frank was the devoted husband of Maryellen Gambaro, with whom he shared nearly 35 years of love, partnership, and unwavering commitment. Together they built a beautiful family and life centered on love and loyalty.

He was a proud and loving father to Thomas Gambaro, Giana Gambaro, and Patrick(Lisa) Mullen.

Frank is survived by his siblings: Louis (Cathy) Gambaro, Joseph Gambaro, Jimmy (Sheri) Santanella, John Gambaro, Danielle Santanella, and Christina (Jimmy) Coffey. He was the beloved uncle of Mia, Nicholas, Joseph, Beck, John, Aiden, Daniel, Anthony, and Dylan, all of whom brought him great pride and joy.

Frank dedicated nearly 20 years of his career as an Ironworker with Local 580. His craftsmanship and hard work contributed to notable projects including the United Nations Headquarters and the Freedom Tower—legacies that stand as lasting symbols of his dedication and skill. He retired only when his health no longer allowed him to continue.

Since 2005, Frank faced multiple cancer diagnoses with remarkable resilience, strength, and determination. He fought each battle with courage, never losing his spirit or love for life.

Outside of work, Frank found his greatest happiness with his family. He loved football, baseball and could often be found surrounded by those he loved, enjoying the games and making lasting memories.

Frank will be remembered for his strength, his deep love for his family, and the way he showed up for those who mattered most. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

The visitation for Frank Gambaro will be held at Marine Park Funeral Home on Friday, March 20, 2026 from 3:00 to 8:00 PM. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Thomas Aquinas Roman Catholic Church on Saturday, March 21, 2026 at 9:30 AM; the family will gather at the funeral home by 8:30 AM. The Committal Service will immediately follow the Funeral Mass at Green-Wood Crematory.
