I was young when I first met John, I always had, or left with, a smile on my face each time we were together. I grew with him and his family and was happy that he was a part of my extended family for all these years. We didn't see each other much over the last few years, but I always felt his presence whenever my thoughts were of family and friends. John was one of the better men that I have met in my life, he will be missed. With fond memories and love, Frank Crisalli.

My deepest condolences to Mrs. DePaolo, Ro, John, and the extended family. I have very fond memories spending time with Adam at Mr. and Mrs. DePaolo’s Brooklyn home. The moment you walked through their door you could feel the warmth and kindness. My thoughts are with you during this difficult time, Mr. DePaolo will be missed!

Uncle Johnny was an incredible man, and his adoration for his family was ever-present. I will always remember visiting the country house in Deposit, Upstate New York. Even now, I can still taste the homegrown cherry tomatoes and sweet Italian basil in Aunt Lorraine’s string bean salad.
He taught my cousins and me how to drive the tractor. I have such fond memories of sitting on the back of it, picking fresh blueberries. As we all got older, he finally started letting us take the wheel by ourselves—and oh, how the arguments over who got to drive first would ensue! But Uncle Johnny was always the voice of reason. He would step in, create a fair rotation for us, and cleverly manage to get the lawn mowed at the same time. What we experienced as children was simply perfect, reasonable leadership.
Afterward, Neil, Nick, Laura, and I would eventually wander back to find him exactly as you’d picture him: a crisp Diet Coke in one hand and a hammer in the other. He’d be fixing something in the beloved treehouse, the one he built with his own loving hands for his grandchildren, Nick and Neil.
As both a nurse and a firefighter, my uncle was an amazing example to all of us of what a true Renaissance man can be. He was a deeply respected man who loved to build a good fire and tell an even better story. I will miss him terribly.
