Asunción López Campos was born on August 15, 1925, in Niquinohomo, Nicaragua. She touched the lives of many through her unwavering devotion to family, her quiet strength, and her generous spirit. In 1986, she moved to the United States and made her home in Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn, New York, where she lived surrounded by her children and loved ones.

A Legacy of Cherished Moments
Family was the center of Asunción’s life. She cherished gatherings filled with laughter, warmth, and shared meals. Among her most treasured memories were her trips to Nicaragua and Germany, where she spent meaningful time with her children, grandchildren, and great- grandchildren—moments that brought her immense joy and pride. Asunción was a devoted mother and the beloved matriarch of her family. Her greatest happiness came from nurturing and caring for those she loved. She is deeply missed and lovingly remembered by family in Germany and Nicaragua, who grieve her passing while celebrating her enduring legacy.

A Life Well Lived
Our mother’s legacy is a lasting, nurturing presence—like a warm, sunny day in Managua. She taught us kindness, resilience, and strength not only through her words, but through her example. She found joy in life’s simple pleasures: cooking traditional meals—corned beef and cabbage, perfectly roasted turkey, and nacatamales—reading the Bible, tending to her flowers, grocery shopping, and celebrating Easter, Christmas, and family birthdays. She also found great joy in caring for her beloved pets—Oscar, Misifusa, Pinina, Junior, and Rocky—who brought her comfort and companionship. Asunción proudly shared her Nicaraguan heritage. She taught her home care attendants how to cook Nicaraguan rice and prepare gallo pinto, while learning from them about the cultures of the Dominican Republic, Peru, Colombia, Ecuador, Bolivia, Cuba, and Venezuela. She sampled their empanadas, but—like a true United Nations diplomat—never revealed which was her favorite. Growing up in Nicaragua, she was a true guerrera, facing adversity with courage, determination, and grace. Her faith in God and her values were solid as gold. She taught her German son-in-law in Nicaragua how to roast coffee over an open fireplace and how to grind the beans using a stone plate and stone roller—tools from her own earlier times. She adapted beautifully to life in her new country, joyfully celebrating Thanksgiving, St. Patrick’s Day, Halloween, and other American traditions. We are profoundly grateful to God for blessing her with more than 100 years of life. We are also deeply thankful for the love, care, and dedication shown by her home care attendants during the last five years of her precious life. Their compassion and commitment are truly priceless and will always be remembered with heartfelt gratitude.

Celebrando una Vida de Familia, Amor y Fortaleza Asunción López Campos nació el 15 de agosto de 1925 en Niquinohomo, Nicaragua. Tocó la vida de muchos con su inquebrantable devoción a la familia, su fortaleza silenciosa y su espíritu generoso. En 1986 emigró a los Estados Unidos y estableció su hogar en Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn, Nueva York, donde vivió rodeada de sus hijos y seres queridos. Un Legado de Momentos Inolvidables La familia fue el centro de la vida de Asunción. Atesoraba las reuniones llenas de risas, calidez y comidas compartidas. Entre sus recuerdos más preciados se encontraban sus viajes a Nicaragua y Alemania, donde compartió momentos significativos con sus hijos, nietos y bisnietos, experiencias que le brindaron una inmensa alegría y orgullo. Asunción fue una madre dedicada y la amada matriarca de su familia. Su mayor Felicidad provenía de cuidar y proteger a quienes amaba. Es profundamente extrañada y recordada con amor por su familia en Alemania y Nicaragua, quienes lamentan su partida mientras celebran su legado perdurable. Una Vida Plenamente Vivida El legado de nuestra madre es una presencia duradera y amorosa, como un cálido día soleado en Managua. Nos enseñó bondad, resiliencia y fortaleza no solo con sus palabras, sino con su ejemplo. Encontraba alegría en los placeres sencillos de la vida: cocinar comidas tradicionales—corned beef con repollo, un pavo perfectamente preparado y nacatamales—leer la Biblia, cuidar sus flores, hacer las compras y celebrar la Pascua, la Navidad y los cumpleaños familiares. También encontró gran alegría cuidando a sus queridas mascotas—Oscar, Misifusa, Pinina, Junior y Rocky—quienes le brindaron consuelo y compañía. Asunción compartía con orgullo su herencia nicaragüense. Enseñó a sus asistentes de cuidado en el hogar a preparar arroz nicaragüense y gallo pinto, mientras aprendía de ellas sobre las culturas de la República Dominicana, Perú, Colombia, Ecuador, Bolivia, Cuba y Venezuela. Probó sus empanadas, pero como una gran diplomática de las Naciones Unidas, nunca reveló cuál era su favorita. Creció en Nicaragua siendo una verdadera guerrera, enfrentando la adversidad con valentía, determinación y gracia. Su fe en Dios y sus valores eran firmes como el oro. En Nicaragua, enseñó a su yerno alemán a tostar café en una fogata abierta y luego a moler los granos tostados utilizando una piedra de moler y un rodillo de piedra, herramientas de tiempos anteriores que formaban parte de su historia. Se adaptó con gracia a su nuevo país, celebrando con alegría el Día de Acción de Gracias, el Día de San Patricio, Halloween y otras tradiciones estadounidenses. Estamos profundamente agradecidos a Dios por haberla bendecido con más de 100 años de vida. También expresamos nuestro más sincero agradecimiento por el amor, cuidado y dedicación brindados por sus asistentes de cuidado en el hogar durante los últimos cinco años de su Preciosa vida. La compasión y compromiso que le brindaron no tienen precio y ellas siempre serán recordadas con profunda gratitud.

Asuncion Lopez Campos passed away on Saturday January 24, 2026 at 100 years old. A visitation will be held at Marine Park Funeral Home on Saturday, February 7, 2026 from 2:00 to 7:00 PM.
