Obituary of John W. Castagliola
John W. Castagliola of Brooklyn, NY passed away peacefully on January 26th, 2026, in his family home.
John was born in Brooklyn, NY on May 11th 1964, to Louis and Joyce Castagliola. He attended Sheepshead Bay High School and graduated in 1982. John worked as a painter and home contractor alongside his father, a trade in which he took great pride.
John had many hobbies including music, DJing, and cars. He was known as a true “Mr. Fix-It”, with a natural talent for repairing things and tackling difficult projects with ease. Even more memorable was his quick wit and sharp sense of humor. John had a gift for making everyone around him laugh and never held anything back.
John cherished time spent with his family and siblings, especially his father. He often reminisced about special moments they shared, fondly recalling stories from different chapters of his life, including the days when he owned his boat and the memories made on the water.
Above all else John’s greatest love was for his two daughters, Jennifer and Stefanie, as well as his four grandchildren, Richie, Allie, James, and Liliana, whose photos proudly filled the walls of his home. To John, they were by far his greatest achievement and nothing made him happier than receiving pictures of their day to day adventures. Though he will be greatly missed, John’s memory lives on through the love he gave, the laughter he shared, and the family he cherished.
John was the cherished son of Louis J. Castagliola and the late Joyce Murison. He was the loving father of Jennifer (Rich) Collyer and Stefanie (Michael) Longo. He was the adoring grandfather of Richie and James Collyer, and Allie and Liliana Longo. John was the brother of Louis (Marika) Castagliola, Michael (Kathy) Castagliola, Beth (the late Joseph) Piccolo, and the late Lynn (Frankie) Marolla. He was the uncle of Christine Gardinier, Joseph Piccolo, James Piccolo, Morissa Horn, Alena Castagliola, Jordyn Castagliola, Tyler Castagliola, and the late Louie Castagliola III.
John will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
The visitation for John Castagliola will be held at Martine Park Funeral Home on Sunday, February 1st, 2026 from 4:00-8:00 p.m.
