Aida Rosiello

Obituary of Aida Rosiello

As we rise to meet each day, we shape what our lives will be, sometimes with uncertainty, other times with conviction and love. And that love, growing each day until our last, is continued in those we have left behind. Life was no different for Aida Rose (nee DeGiulio) Rosiello. Born in Italy to Biaggio and Giuseppina, she made the journey to America as an infant, cradled in her mother’s arms, surrounded by 5 siblings. She was known by many names; Aida, Eda, Edie, Aunt DeeDee, Aunt Edie, Mom, and Grandma; wrapping herself in each one with warmth and with pride and joy.

On a blind date in the late1950’s she met the love of her life, Ugo. Mom and Dad were married in August of 1957 and were inseparable for the next 57 years until his death in 2014. Growing up in Brooklyn, her childhood and adult life were filled with family and friends. Like Dad, Mom cherished being surrounded by her family. Both were overwhelmed with pride and joy at seeing their children become parents and affording them with grandchildren. While never giving up on being Mom and Dad, I think it is safe to say that they loved being Grandma and Grandpa most of all.

She welcomed family and friends into her home and made everyone feel as if they were part of it. A gracious host, she would even teach you some of her recipes. Mom taught my friend Will to make her sauce. He was so good at replicating the recipe that when he first met and cooked for his future wife, she thought this sweet Irish lad must be Italian!

Mom loved to sing and could belt out a tune. If she had not assumed the primary role of Mother, I imagine she could have been singing in a band with Dad on the weekends. In fact, throughout our childhood she participated in many St. Bernard Parish Variety Shows. She loved it. But it always came back to family; us, her nieces and nephews, her parents, and in-laws, and the friends she cherished. She was ever present for us all. She was selfless, a caregiver at her core. Mom was nurturing and she loved life. The days will be less bright for a time without her in it. In time the light will return, and our hearts will be filled with warmth and joy when we remember all that Aida was, and all that she gave the world.
