Obituary of Charles Lee Essex

Charles “Charlie” Essex passed away peacefully on December 14, 2025. Known lovingly as “Big E” by his friends, colleagues and family.

Beloved father of Kathleen (Vincent) Zito, Michael, and predeceased by his adored son Thomas (Regina). Devoted grandfather to Krysten (Scott) Schneider, Nicole (Tom) Lennon, Samantha Zito, Tori (Will) Zito-Graham, Ali Zito, Caroline and Thomas. Caring great-grandfather to Ella, Kailyn, and Adrienne. Dear brother to the late Robert (the late Annette) Essex. Cherished uncle and great-uncle to Elizabeth (David) Starr and Robert, and Tyler Starr, Justin Starr, Nicole, and Megan Esparza. 

Charlie was a proud retired NYPD Sergeant who loved spending time with his family and friends. Often spent his weekends with friends in Atlantic City or watching horse racing. He was a devoted Mets and Giants fan. Charlie will be missed dearly by his family and friends.

Calling hours will be Thursday, December 18 from 2:00 – 5:00 and 7:00 – 9:00 PM at Marine Park Funeral Home, Inc., 3024 Quentin Road, Brooklyn, NY.

A committal service will be Friday, December 19 at 11: 00 AM at Lutheran All Faiths Cemetery in Middle Village, Queens NY.
