Obituary of William G. Campbell

William Gerard Campbell was born on June 19, 1952, in Windsor Terrace, Brooklyn, to William F. and Millicent Campbell. He was the first born son to his parents and grandson to Arthur and Ethel Campbell and Owen and Mary McKenna. He was the oldest brother to Joseph, Mary Ellen, Thomas and Laura Campbell. He is also survived by his partner, Leon Pender.

William, "Billy," graduated from Holy Name of Jesus Elementary School, Xaverian High School and Brooklyn College. As a sociology major, Billy worked full time at the Brooklyn Public Library while attending night school. After graduating with a Bachelor's Degree, he began working as a New York State tax collector, where he worked until his retirement at age 62.

Billy is known for his abundance of friends from his childhood, his work at the library and his friends at Tax and Finance. He was well known as a key CSEA union member, often joining his fellow union members on annual boat rides and other union outings.

What Billy is best known for is being a favorite uncle to his nephews Thomas Hensch, Ian Lui and Patrick Lui and to his beloved niece, Megan Hensch. He will also be missed by his Brothers-in-law, Tom, Allan and Kai, niece-in-law Rudy Hensch, and grandnephew Thomas Hensch III and grandniece, Tiana Hensch. He never missed a graduation or birthday party. His hearty laugh and generosity was legendary to everyone who knew him.
