Obituary of Patricia S. Hemphill
Patricia S. "Pat/Patty" Hemphill, 77, of Moorestown and Franklin Lakes, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on September 14, 2025, in South Glastonbury, Connecticut, surrounded by her devoted and loving family.
Born in Brooklyn, New York, on January 18, 1948, Patricia carried the spirit of her childhood throughout her life. The streets of Brooklyn shaped her love of community, her resilience, and her appreciation for the simple joys of family and friendship. Summers spent at her beloved Masten Lake home in the Catskills became a sanctuary where she recreated the warmth and laughter of her own youth. There, she shared stories, traditions, and adventures with her family, ensuring that the magic of family traditions lived on for generations.
Patricia's life was a journey of love, learning, and service. She attended college in New York City, lived in Chicago, and raised her family in Franklin Lakes, later moving to Moorestown to be close to her grandchildren. She believed deeply that success comes from doing what one loves. Patty began her career at Western Electric/AT&T, later worked at American Capital Partners Brokerage Firm, and ultimately found her true calling in social work. As the co-founder of Elder Care Options and later Hemphill Senior Consulting, she devoted her life to helping elderly clients live with dignity and grace. Her wisdom, compassion, and unwavering commitment touched countless lives.
A graduate of Ramapo College, Patty earned her Master of Social Work from Fordham University, specializing in Geriatric Counseling. Beyond her professional accomplishments, she was a devoted woman of faith, teaching CCD at Christ the King Church in Haddonfield, New Jersey, so she could participate in her grandchildren's journey of faith.
Patricia was predeceased by her parents, Frederick and Stella Sweeney. She will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend. She is survived by her son, Dr. Michael P. Hemphill; daughter, Meredith A. (David) Lampman; grandchildren, Stella and Sutton; brother, Fred Sweeney (Trisha Davitt); and nieces and nephews, Sarah Davitt-Sweeney (Alison), Patrick Davitt-Sweeney and Silean Davitt-Sweeney.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 18, 2025, from 2:00–5:00 p.m. and 7:00–9:00 p.m. at Marine Park Funeral Home in Brooklyn, New York. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, September 19, 2025, at Our Lady Help of Christians Church in Brooklyn, followed by interment at St. John Cemetery in Middle Village, New York.
Patricia's legacy is one of love, generosity, and devotion. Her Brooklyn roots, summers at Masten Lake, and lifelong commitment to family, faith, and service leave an enduring imprint on all who were fortunate to know her.
