Obituary of Peter W. Cassidy Jr.

Peter W. Cassidy, Jr., age 81, passed away Friday, August 15, 2025. Mr. Cassidy was born June 11, 1944, in Brooklyn, NY. He is the son of the late Peter W. and the late Catherine (nee Maroney) Cassidy.

Peter W. Cassidy, Jr., was a beloved son, brother, cousin, uncle, teacher, coach and friend. A lifelong educator and mentor, he touched countless lives with his humility, humor, and unwavering kindness. To know Peter was to be seen, celebrated and supported. He made everyone he met feel like the star of the show.

Throughout his career, Peter taught at St. Bernadette's, St. Genevieve and Notre Dame High School. He moved to Los Angeles, CA in the late 70's, but remained a proud Brooklynite, who treasured his own Brooklyn accent. Known for a special tradition that has now out lived him; Peter counted down the days until St. Patrick's Day each year.

He was the devoted brother of the late Patricia McCabe (the late Terrance,) the late Kathleen Hardy (Jeff,) the late Thomas Cassidy, the late John Cassidy (the late Bill Boss,) and Mary Esposito (the late Anthony).

A proud uncle to the late Kathleen McCabe, Terence McCabe, Patty Anne McCabe, Suzanne Lichtman, Catherine Fedofsky, Claire McCormack (Tommy), Anthony John Esposito III (Valerie), Carly Gutierrez (Derek) and Nina Esposito. 

A cherished great uncle to Terence McCabe, Derek McCabe, Julia Lichtman, Rebecca Quinones, Suzy Quinones, Cassidy McCormack, Thomas McCormack, Fiona Esposito, Lorenzo Gutierrez and Camilo Gutierrez.

Peter will be deeply missed by many cousins, especially his dear cousin and best friend Bobby Ostrander, as well as countless close friends, too many to name, whom he considered family.

Peter nurtured his friendships with care, loyalty and love. Students now in their fifties and sixties still speak of him as the best teacher and friend they ever had. Peter's legacy is one of generosity, humility, and enduring connection.

Visitation will take place Thursday, August 28, 2025 from 2:00 – 5:00 and 7:00 – 9:00 PM at Marine Park Funeral Home, 3024 Quentin Road, Brooklyn, NY 11234.

Funeral mass will be on Friday August 29, 2025 at St. Bernadette Roman Catholic Church at 9:45 AM. 8201 13th Avenue Brooklyn, NY 11228.

Committal service will immediately follow to St. Charles Cemetery. 2015 Wellwood Avenue Farmingdale, NY 11735.
