Obituary of Alfred Edward Alvarez

Alfred Edward Alvarez, 93, of Brooklyn, NY, passed away Friday, August 22, 2025 at home, surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Alvarez was born October 23, 1931, in Pontevedra, Spain. He is the son of the late Avelino and the late Rudesinda (nee Alonso) Alvarez.

For 72 years, Alfred shared his life with his beloved wife, Marianne Alvarez. Together they raised two daughters, Laura Kubiak (Mitchel) and Lisa Young (Russell.)

He is the cherished grandfather of Miranda Young (Robert Hannan), Alexandra Kubiak, Raymond Kubiak, and Caitlyn Young, and the adoring great-grandfather of Rowan Young-Hannan.

Alfred proudly served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. Following his service, he dedicated his career to aeronautical engineering and contributed to one of humanity's greatest achievements as part of a team of engineers who designed the landing gear for the Apollo mission. Later, he followed his calling, becoming a teacher with the New York City Board of Education, where he inspired and guided countless students with patience, wisdom, and humility.

Known for his quiet nature and steady presence, Alfred embodied the phrase, "still water runs deep." With his gifted "hands of gold," he could fix anything. Above all, he was a man devoted to his family, who found joy and fulfillment in the love they shared.
