Obituary of Andrew Alex St. Aubyn Gayle
Andrew Alex St. Aubyn Gayle was born in Kingston, Jamaica to Ansel and Beryl Gayle on February 24, 1964. He went to Brooklyn Technical High School and graduated in 1981. Drew’s first major role was with Dunn & Bradstreet, where he served as a Senior Processing Manager. There he received multiple recognitions for his dedication to the job and became the youngest to hold that position in the company’s history. He later thrived as a Senior Car Salesman at A1 Toyota Dealership and Pest Control Specialist at Kingsway Exterminating. Drew carried the expertise he gained in both fields into his own entrepreneurial ventures—founding ASTA Motorcars LLC, where he worked as an independent car dealer, and establishing his own Pest Management Services company. He later went on to earn a certification in computer technology from Per Scholas.
Drew’s passions extended far beyond his professional life. He loved the freedom and thrill of driving, participating and spectating in all sports, but especially boxing, track & field, and basketball. A disciplined martial artist, he achieved black belt status in taekwondo and shared his skills by teaching self-defense classes for women. He delighted in crafting healthy dishes from diverse cuisines and cherished the simple joy of gathering with family. In everything he pursued, Drew was known for his focus, determination, and discipline.
As the youngest child, Drew was fiercely independent from the start—giving his parents a run for their money. He was spirited, strong-willed, and always determined to be seen and heard. At just 10 years old, he once packed a suitcase and prepared to set out on his own path. Though he returned home, that spark of willpower remained a defining trait throughout his life. Nowhere was this more evident than in the care and loyalty he showed his parents. After the passing of his father, Ansel, Drew became a steadfast support to his beloved mother, Beryl, ensuring her home and health were always cared for. Despite being the youngest of his siblings, Drew’s wisdom, strength, and insight often gave him the air of the eldest. His brothers and sisters looked up to him, admiring his leadership and cherishing his presence.
Drew’s journey was not without hardships—life at times proved difficult, disappointing, and even cruel. Yet, through every challenge, he prevailed. He carried himself with dignity, resilience, and self-respect, forging a life filled with purpose and love. His childhood friends from Osborn Street knew him as reliable, supportive, and loyal—a friend for life.
Drew met his daughter Bree in 1998 and it was an instant, forever love. To his amusement—and sometimes exasperation—she returned to him the same fiery resistance he once gave his own parents. Of all his accomplishments, he was proudest of being a good father. His pride and love were shown through his constant presence, his guidance, his friendship, and a balance of gentle warmth and firm encouragement that defined their unbreakable bond.
Andrew will be remembered as a devoted son, a loving father, a cherished brother and uncle, and a respected mentor among his peers. He was a natural guide, offering encouragement and wisdom to the next generation. His legacy of strength, love, and perseverance will continue to shine in the lives of all who knew him.
He is survived by his mother, Beryl Gayle; daughter, Bry’onna Mention; brothers, Freeman BenYosh and Robert Gayle; sisters, Millicent Gayle, Andrea Lowery, and Lorna Flamer-Caldera; and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, and godchildren.
He is predeceased in death by his father, Ansel Gayle.
Memorial donations may be made in his honor. Please donate to your local homeless shelter as Drew did throughout his life.
