Obituary of Anthony A. Metivier

Anthony A. Metivier, fondly known by many names; Tony, Jumbie, Meti, Squinge, Papa, and "Tony the Tiger," passed away peacefully on August 6, 2025, in Brooklyn, New York, at the age of 87.

Born on July 13, 1938, in Port of Spain, Trinidad, to the late Leonard Metivier and the late Catalina (nee Centeno) Metivier, Tony's life was marked by intelligence, humor, and a love for learning. He attended Fatima College in Port of Spain, where he earned his bachelor's degree, and went on to work as an accountant for Shell Oil Company.

On December 21, 1963, Tony married the love of his life, Jemma (nee Rabbess) Metivier. Together, they built a life filled with laughter, shared adventures, and deep devotion to their family.

Tony's passions were as varied as they were vibrant. A devoted Yankees fan, he enjoyed following sports, playing billiards, and watching horse racing. He loved crossword puzzles, testing his luck with the lotto, and getting lost in a good book. His taste in music spanned all genres, though country held a special place in his heart, and he had a particular fondness for classic western films. His quick wit and good sense of humor were well known to everyone who met him.

Tony's proudest accomplishment was his family. He is survived by his beloved wife, Jemma; his children Selma Summers, Joni Emeric, Dexter Metivier, and Nicole Gutierrez; and his grandchildren Kurtis Summers, Karolyn Summers, Krystal Summers, Karen Summers, Daniel Echevarria, Michael Gutierrez, Mya Metivier, Alyssa Gutierrez, and Noa Metivier.

He will be remembered for his sharp mind, kind heart, and the joy he brought to all who knew him. His legacy of love, laughter, and wisdom will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
