Obituary of Marilyn "Pat" Kavanaugh

Marilyn “Pat” Kavanaugh, age 85, passed away peacefully on May 13, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend whose life was rooted in love and family.

Born and raised in Bergen Beach, Brooklyn, Pat was the daughter of the late Eugene and Irene Barish. Brooklyn was where she spent most of her life and where she raised her family. Though she eventually moved to New Jersey, Brooklyn always held a special place in her heart. She never stopped missing the neighborhood she called home for so many years.

Pat was the loving mother of Patricia (Anthony) Macaluso, Carolyn (Danny) Liberto, Nancy Amulevicz, Maryellen Pasciuta, Diane Kavanaugh, James (Ashley) Kavanaugh, and Janet (Ignazio) Iacono. Her children were her world, and she took great pride in raising them with love, strength, and dedication.

She was the proud grandmother of Michael (Paulina), Jessica (Theresa), Lauren, Joseph (Jill), Julia, Frankie, Nicole, Sofia, Salvatore, Ava, Isaiah, James, Hannah, Brooklyn, Josiah, Micah, and Legacy. She was also the beloved great-grandmother of Grayson, Landon, Addison, and Joseph Jr. Her love for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren was endless — she was happiest when her house was full and her family was near.

Pat is also survived by brother, Thomas (Grace) Barish, and sister, Carolann (the late Robert) Howe, along with many nieces and nephews who held a special place in her heart.

She was a true Mets fan who loved baseball. More than anything, Pat loved being with her family. She looked forward to every birthday, holiday, or casual get-together — always asking, “When’s the next party?” She believed in making memories, and she created a lifetime of them with those she loved.

Pat’s life was a reflection of the values she held dear: family, loyalty, and togetherness. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her, but her spirit will live on in the laughter at family gatherings, the stories shared over dinner, and the traditions she helped create.
