I remember Easter always being such a joyful time, especially knowing we’d be gathering at Aunt Rose’s. There was always an overabundance of food—but not just any food, the best food. I’d actually fast the day before, knowing I’d need all the room I could get for her famous meatballs and stuffed peppers.
After her meatball recipe was lovingly shared, I tried again and again to perfect it. Each batch was followed with the same question: “Do they taste like Aunt Rose’s?” Eventually, I got close—close enough for Dave and the girls to give it a thumbs up. But the true moment of pride came when I shared one with Aunt Rose at a family gathering and was met with her warm smile. That meant the world to me.
Aunt Rose’s life was about three things: family, good food, and hugs—we were lucky to have all three every time we were with her.
