Obituary of John Charles Thomas
John Thomas, aged 29, suddenly passed away at home on Wednesday, April 2, 2025. He was the third child of Brian and Peggy (Rogers) Thomas, who survive him. He is also survived and cherished by his two older sisters, Katie and Elizabeth Thomas. John was the 32nd and youngest grandchild on both sides of his family. He was loved and will be missed by many aunts, uncles, and cousins. Likewise, he is survived by his girlfriend, Kinga Zablocki, who had hoped to make many memories with him.
John was a good student and was educated in four great Catholic schools, he graduated from McQuaid Jesuit High School, in 2013, and Iona University, in 2017, with a degree in Economics. As a child, John had an interest in all sorts of sports and activities. Little League baseball; CYO basketball; club soccer; Gaelic and American football; and swimming. Even in adulthood he was often found exercising with his Lacrosse stick. Just this past year, he purchased a new lacrosse defenseman stick for his regular practice sessions. John loved to play defense in all sports, he just seemed to know where the ball was going to be. Also, during his High School years, he regularly participated in the semi-annual school plays as part of the stage crew.
John was an industrious kid and hard worker and always enjoyed his work. As a young child, he had wanted to be a veterinarian, so he landed a job during high school at Pet Supply Plus, where he got to learn and support all kinds of animals, including his own two dogs, Coco and Lucky, and various other pets: cats, fish, and birds.
As college approached, he turned his attention to finance and economics, which would decide his lasting career. He always enjoyed working, during all 4 years of college he worked for the Christian Brothers as a property management worker. In his final two summers of college, he had internships with two great financial institutions, Mutual of America and Wells Fargo. Both of which recruited him after college, and both would eventually employ him. He was working as a Financial Crimes Specialist for Wells Fargo at the time of his death.
In 2023 he got to share a trip of a lifetime to his ancestorial home, Ireland. His mother, father and sisters will forever treasure being with him as he kissed the Blarney stone, walked the beaches in Dingle and smiled on Galway Bay. Recently with Kinga he was beginning to explore his beloved New York City. Visiting new and exciting restaurants, museums, exhibitions, and Comedy Clubs. Also, as he got older, he began to try his hand at cooking. He was known for his homemade buttermilk onion rings and the use of his cast iron skillet.
While he always spent his summers at Breezy Point, NY, he was particularly happy that his parents finally made Breezy their permanent home. Often coming to visit so he could swim in the Atlantic Ocean, walk the Bay beaches, and see the night skyline of Coney Island and New York City.
