Vilma Forgenie

Obituary of Vilma M. Forgenie

Vilma Marie Ann Forgenie was born on February 16, 1931, in Trinidad, West Indies, to Maude Peltier and Albert Daniel. From a young age, Vilma was a reserved and thoughtful individual. She was never the loudest in the room, preferring the company of a close-knit group of friends, her beloved family, and especially her dear sister, Marjorie.

Vilma attended Nelson Street Roman Catholic Primary School before continuing her education at Osmond High School. After high school, she earned a certificate in shorthand and typing, equipping her with skills that would later serve her well in her career.

On October 29, 1960, Vilma married the love of her life, Peter Robert Forgenie. Together, they built a beautiful family, welcoming their first two children, Michelle and Gillian. Shortly after, the family immigrated to the United States, settling in Brooklyn, New York. There, they were blessed with their third child, Peter.

Vilma dedicated many years of her life as a medical transcriptionist, working at St. John’s Episcopal Hospital and later at Interfaith Medical Center. Her strong work ethic and attention to detail made her a valued professional in the medical field.

Faith was an essential part of Vilma’s life. She was a devout Catholic and attended church weekly, finding strength and guidance in her faith. Her unwavering devotion to God shaped the way she lived, always showing kindness, generosity, and compassion to those around her.

Vilma was a very peaceful woman who valued harmony above all else. She did not like arguing or strife, always choosing to rise above conflict. When faced with a difficult situation, she would take the high road and say, “for peace sake.” Her gentle spirit and wisdom touched everyone who knew her, reminding us that grace and understanding are always the best choices.

After retirement, Vilma cherished spending time with her children, grandchildren, and extended family. She found joy in the simple moments—sharing laughter, reminiscing, and offering her wisdom and warmth to those around her. In her later years, she enjoyed trips to Atlantic City, playing Bingo, and spending time at the senior center, where she formed lasting friendships and embraced life to the fullest.

Vilma is lovingly remembered by her three children: Michelle, Gillian, and Peter; her grandchildren: Jenelle, Justin, Malik, Stephon, Kyle, Jasmin, and Jayda; and her great-grandchildren: Justin Isaiah, Aliyah, Zahky, and Zavaia. She is also survived by her sister Marjorie, brother-in-law John, niece Tiffany, grand-niece Jenelle Sobion and great -grand -niece Nifisa Sicar, along with many more beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members, both in the U.S. and abroad. She was a loving cousin to the Patterson and Dalrymple families, maintaining strong family ties and cherished connections throughout her life.

Vilma’s legacy of faith, kindness, strength, and devotion to family will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. She will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
