Obituary of Paul T. Kennedy Sr.
After a couragous battle, Lt. Paul T. Kennedy, Sr. succumbed to his illness surrounded by his loving family on February 3, 2025, at the age of 78. A dedicated and courageous public servant, Paul served with the New York City Police Department for 35 years, retiring with honor as a lieutenant.
His life was forever changed by the events of September 11, 2001. Paul worked tirelessly at Ground Zero, committed to ensuring the safety of others as he managed security in the aftermath of the tragedy. Sadly, his unwavering service came at a great cost—he was diagnosed with 9/11-related liver cancer in 2007 and later diagnosed with 9/11-related lung disease in 2021. The past four years were marked by immense struggle and pain.
Paul has now found peace and has been reunited in Heaven with his beloved wife, Carol, who passed away in 2020. Their love story began when they were just 15 years old, and his heart never healed from her loss. Now, they are together once more.
Paul’s legacy of bravery, devotion, and love will live on in the hearts of his family and all who knew him.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations in Paul's memory to Tunnels to Towers.
