Thomas Michael Goodheart !l A loving husband to Gloria Goodheart for 59 years. Their love began at an early age of 14 and remained until he went home to God. They both endured the trials and tribulations of life together. My Dad always shielded his children from his work and God knows what his eyes witnessed from the calling of being a fireman. He taught us honor, valor and courage in all things. He believed and lived a motto of leaving no man behind. Thomas raised and loved six children, whom he was very proud of and was devoted to each one with much love, patience and guidance. His dearly loved children, Thomas, Robert, Clista, Veronica, Gloria & Susan. He loved all of his son in laws, James Meyers, Daniel Doyle, Albert Cardillo and Frederick Doyle like his own children. The same love was extended to his daughter in-law Maureen Goodheart. His Grandchildren were so special and loved by Thomas from the moment he laid eyes on them, Candice, Laura, Sarah, Thomas, Jessica, Anthony, Michael & Maureen.
Thomas served the NYFD for over 20 years and was so dedicated, this was demonstrated not only on the job, but for family and friends as well. Thomas was the first person that was called in an emergency whether it be family or neighborhood. He also proudly served his country in US Army and became a teacher for those embarking of being a Hero for NYFD.
All I know is I am so grateful my Dad was My DAD, how he managed to love and do the best he could with what he was dealt. Many could never rise to the challenge, not my DAD, he did it!
Thomas loved to stay by the poolside, enjoyed the ocean, playing cards, country music, big band music, bowling, golf and what a sweet tooth he had! He will be missed so much, a strong and dependable Husband, Father and Friend.
May he rest now from all of the hard work and perseverance endured in this life, and may he be at peace and with God and all of his family and friends that went before him. You served God well. Not many could have done what he did. Rest and know I love you Daddy. I know what you endured…..I think always, those that were in the dark and scared to death saw that light, that flashlight of hope and rescue, you pushed through and were willing to sacrifice your life for a stranger. God Bless you and all of those who were called to save and rescue all in need. I love you and miss you always. I thank God every day that you were my DADDY.
