I met Donald in the early 1970s. His father, Richie (Mr. Kenna to our team) was my hockey coach for the 70th PYC Kings hockey club. Richie was more than a hockey coach to me. My dad passed away and Mr. Kenna became like a father figure to me. The Kenna family would always warmly welcome me into their home for dinner or just to hang out. Donald made me laugh whenever we got together. Every time he’d ask, “hey Josh, are you going to the party?” I don’t remember the origin of that line but it would crack us up! I moved out of Brooklyn in the late 70’s but would run into Donald or his brothers at Ave. F reunion hockey games. Our love for hockey brought us together but our friendship lasted for decades.
