Obituary of Frederic Colley
Frederic W. Colley died Tuesday at home with his loving family by his side. He was 75. Son of the late Frederick & Eleanor Colley he was born April 13, 1942.
Fred's long time presence in Gerritsen Beach defines what Community is all about. From his career with the NYC Borad of Education at P.S. 277 to his 50 + years as Santa Claus with the annual Ragamuffin Parade, if you lived in Gerritsen Beach you may not have known him personally but you certainly crossed paths. In 1960 at age 19 when a strom hit Gerritsen Beach Fred found himself side by side with the Gerritsen Beach Fire Department. This eventful day would later lead to him becoming Lieutenant in 1968, Captain in 1969 and by 1973 the Second Assistant Chief. In 1974 he successfully ran for Chief of the Fire Department under the slogan "Demellos Fellows or Collies Vollies". His void is felt at the Department leaving one that never can be filled.
Fred leaves behind his devoted wife Barbara. Children Darren, Brendan, Lauren, Kevin and the late Guy. Grandpa of Lauren, Isabel, Viviant & Scarlett. Dear brother of Ruth Magwood and Joseph Colley.
Reposing Friday 2 to 5 & 7 to 9:00PM at The Marine Park Funeral Home. Funeral Mass Saturday 9:15AM Resurrection R.C. Church. Interment to follow Pinelawn Memorial Park.
