Obituary of Marjorie G. Hanratty

Marjorie G. Hanratty passed away January 10, 2017 at the age of 76. Marjorie was welcomed into Heaven by her loving husband the late William V. Hanratty. She was the beloved mother of William V. Hanratty Jr., Cathleen Hanratty, Steven P. Hanratty, and Scott Hanratty (Stefanie). Marjorie was the dear sister of Lois (the late Albert)Krummenacker, Doris (Joseph) White, Rosemary (Paul) Bennetts, and the late Monsignor William C. Hatcher. She was the cherished grandmother of Brendan William Hanratty, and Genevieve Grace Hanratty. Marjorie was born in Jersey City, NJ to William and Florence (nee Donovan) Hatcher. She attended St. Michael's High School in Union City, NJ. After graduation Marjorie worked at New York Life Insurance Company in Manhattan, until she met her husband William. She was appointed to the NYPD in September of 1987, retiring in August of 2002. Marjorie spent most of her career as the Senior Police Administrative Aide at the 63rd Precinct in Brooklyn, NY. Marjorie was a devout Catholic. She enjoyed attending Broadway shows, traveling, exercising, and tap dancing. Some of Marjorie's favorite memories were time spent at the Bergen Beach and Marine Park Adult Programs with her many friends. Other fond memories are of family trips to the Jersey Shore, which was one of Marjorie's favorite places. Marjorie was an extremely generous, supportive, and hardworking mother. She was a dedicated grandmother who loved spending quality time with her two grandchildren. She especially loved sleepovers with her grandchildren where she would sing to them and play in the park. She also enjoyed using Skype to keep in contact with her sisters in Florida and Washington - she loved hearing stories of her beloved nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Marjorie's honor. The Funeral Mass will be held at St. Thomas Aquinas Roman Catholic Church on Saturday January 14, 2017 at 9:30 AM - the family will be meeting at the funeral home by 8:30 AM. The Committal Service will be immediately following the Funeral Mass at Resurrection Cemetery in Staten Island.
